This installation, called 'Waste Not,' was created by Song Dong, a Beijing-based artist. His mother collected these items throughout her lifetime:

#28…bindles of coke? lolol
This exhibit appeals to me on so many levels. As someone who has that hoarder trait of attaching sentiment to everyday things, I think this artist's cousin would probably be so happy to see it all displayed like this, to see it all amounted to something. For the casual viewer, what an interesting glimpse into a lifetime of things.

The piece is called "Waste Not" by Song Dong of Beijing, and it was at MoMA last year:

so was he a massive hoarder?
Yes, I saw this exhibit at MoMA last summer. It was fascinating. It was the artist's mother who kept this stuff.
what's amazing is how everything was all kept inside the little house! when i walked through the exhibit, i was most affected by the smell of everything, that musty/aging smell of too many things kept around for too long. i stopped keeping as much stuff after seeing the show.
Wow. This is fascinating and a little scary. To see the literally thousands of things that pass through our hands during a lifetime is sobering. What are our "things" TO us, and what do they SAY about us? It's also rhythmic and poetic, the repetition and order amid the depletion and decay. If the objective of art is to capture the viewers' imagination, this display surely achieves it. I wish I'd seen the actual exhibition; I'll be pondering these pictures for hours!
not fascinating. taking a hoarder's crap and arranging it… does not make it art. fail.
Agree. Big deal! So someone did not throw stuff away. Wow.
I agree, this is pretty weird. My first thought was.. and still is why?
