The Chive does include black women in their posts, though they are very largely underrepresented. Remember though that the Chive is also a user-submitted site: if the Chive operates as usual and then most Chivers don’t happen to submit photos of black women, they won’t be widely represented in the Chive’s posts. John, Leo, and the other admins realized this, and decided to increase the representation of black women on the site with the occasional black is beautiful post.
