Aelita Andre’s art has been celebrated in galleries from Asia and Europe to Australia and North America. At 4 years old, she is the youngest professional painter in the world. She has a solo show in NYC next month (June 4th-25th) at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea.
are you fucking kidding me? Any four year old could do that shit.
laaaaammmmmeeeeeee
This is so ridiculously frustrating that a child is being claimed to have "abstract" skills. It is a four year old throwing paint at a canvas. Meanwhile, around the world students are paying thousands of dollars to learn from the masters, only to get outdone by a child who doesn't even know what she's doing and just thinks the colour are pretty? Completely and utterly infuriating.
Clarice – don't forget that every couple of years, there's another one of these child prodigies that pop up and the whole thing is eventually exposed as a con by the child's parents.
Essentially, the child's age has become the hook, the gimmick, that is supposed to make it's "work" valuable, because the art world has largely abandoned skill, talent, communicativeness, realism, in favor of "shocking" and "new" and gimmicks.
It does, however, demonstrate the wise response to abstract "art" – a child, any child, could do it.
I think I could have done this work as a chid if only my parents would have given me a few grand's worth of paints and canvases. Instead, I got Play-Dough and sandbox. (I'm not complaining, I was happy.) When I did have paint I was told not to waste it and to clean up my messes.
Clearly her parents had the means to let her go full-on-2-year-old with some art supplies. Mom or Dad are probably pretty well connected in the art/gallery business. Throw in some modern day marketing/PR in (you know, a story in the New York Times , "Child Prodigy Astound Art Critics: 3 Year Old Sells Painting for $12,000).
So many of us are suckers for the next big thing. I can hear the gallery owner saying, "This work is genius. And at $12,000, you know it will go up in price. This is an investment – Just imagine in 20 or 30 years after Aelita is one of the world's most influential artists, you will own one of her original pieces." The customer will then drop down a gold card.
the music is ridiculous too. like it's trying to make the 'paintings' seem magical, or something.
How THICK is that paint and how does it ever dry without falling/flaking off? She has to be coached to add masks, colored cotton balls, etc.
The main thing is: No one will stand around at the art opening discussing their interpretations of what it "means. It was done by a tiny girl who has no hidden agenda. Some of them were beautiful, but my 2-year-old granddaughter could produce a beauty too!
never seen grown adults so jealous of a 4 year old in my life……art is art. u can see the thought in her eyes…im sure any of the great artist of the last 300 years did some kind of abstract that at 4 years old looked no different….and w/ that love early on it inspired them to do ggreat things!!! sad that u cant see beauty and talent when it staring u right in the face……thhats why i swear i will never grow up!!!!
" never seen grown adults so jealous of a 4 year old in my life" Love it!
i just call it like i see it!!!
I think this is inspirational, whether she be 4 or 54. Her paintings are gorgeous and she could go far with this. When I watched this video I didn't see a 4 year old splattering paint everywhere I saw an artist doing what she loves. For all you people know, this could be Picaso's spirit, back in this world.
or artist Jackson Pollock.
forgive me for being jealous of a four-year-old with more money now then i will ever have in my life. i'd say jealousy is a perfectly natural response.
unfortunately, unless an artist has a gimmick, there would be no fame or fortune. it's all about being in the right place at the right time. thanks to youtube and teh interwebsz, it seems as though more of these "lil artistes" are getting noticed. what is really depressing is how people seem to love that brand of hyper-abstraction, whether it is created by kids or adults. it looks like something a big-city orthodontist would buy on the advice that it would make his office look full of money.
when, pray tell, do any of these prodigious children go on to influence the art world? are any of them still relevant? i'm not being hypothetical. perhaps fans of this genre of painting who know a thing or two about wee'uns channeling andre masson (har) could tell me what happens to them after they begin to restrain themselves and become aware of artistic convention?
So the parents bought her paints and let her make a mess! So What! She is an artist, she likes doing it, and she knows when her paintings are done! Who cares how much money she makes for her paintings, as long as she loves what she does! Art is not about the money, its about loving what you have created and feeling complete and proud of what you do! Oh…and many famous painters whos paintings are worth millions NOW did not become famous right away, until their death!
being an artist is about creating Art… Art is defined by those who view it.imo
