I'll take Curie, Earhart, Ghandi, Thatcher, and Princess Diana and the rest are a frightening selection. also its "Grace Kelly," Gene Kelly was a fly ass gangster who did the singin' in the Rain dance.

Right and when Britney Spears was an "icon" she was a successful pop singer for young girls. No one would call her one now. And no one has ever called the three "10's" girls icons. Famous does not equal icon.

Anyone can pick three "bad" people in any of those decades and say they were icons just because they were famous.

I think friends there is a difference between ICON and ROLE MODEL. The reason, I think, these people are listed on this poorly executed sheet with many errors is because they are RECOGNIZABLE in their industry by the public. I think our definition and perception of ICON has definitely shifted from the 1930s to today.

Britney's lasted much longer than anyone thought she would, and has been amazing with the comeback. I'd call her an icon, and so would all of her enormous fan base. So why aren't you complaining about Madonna and the Spice Girls being called icons?
