it's how your brain perceives the colors, since the brown is darker on the bottom it makes that box seem brighter. then when you place your finger to remove the stark color break you brain is seeing, it looks the same

true but false at the same time. the bottom's square's bottom half (not sure if that made sense) is the same colour as the one on top. However the top part of the bottom square is in fact lighter. You can check that by covering bottom half of the square and you will see that the top part of it is infact a shade lighter.

What was used to line the holes in the bricks?

i used 1/4" mesh wire fencing that i cut into 6" by 8" rectangles. some are laying flat between bricks, for the ones that stick out i folded the corners in (kind of like a wonton), put it in the block, and then pushed the corners out against the sides. would definitely recommend using gloves, that wire is vicious!

#16 the bottom square isn't all a solid grey color. The top part of it is a lighter shade which gets covered up when you put your finger across the screen.
