Spray tans are disgusting, why should she need one? She just needs to eat right and be healthy so that pale skin would look gorgeous. I wish I had pale skin like Emma Stone and Kristen Stewart have, love it. Don't get the whole "she needs a tan". No, tanning is not good for your skin

My greatgrandmother always wore hats or sunscreen so when she passed at 91 she looked like she was in her 70's. Back then pale skin was in, and even though some people like it still there will always be those who throw a side eye at fair skinned girls like me unfortunately.

there is a difference between pale protected skin, and never seen the outside of the bell jar in which i was created skin. i do not suggest a tanning bed, or the sun, just a little bronzer to take of the grave-like pallor. by no means do i suggest everyone try to look brazilian, i just think see through is not so lovely. even you sound like she needs vegetables to appear a healthy pale.

I guess I should have explained better, some women like myself can't get in the sun. I have SLE and even with sunscreen I get horribly sick after only 30 min in the sun. And I personally would love to use a bronzer but can't on my body due to sensitive skin and all the ones I have tried cause a rash. And all I was meaning was the benefits of reduced sun exposure show when you get older.

Sorry, that's crappy. =( I'm sure you've learned to cope with no sun, but what an awful way to have go through your life.

In other news, I wouldn't be surprised if the model in this picture was dead by now. She is SO skinny. =(

In all of these pictures the woman with the fuller figure looks 100 times better then the stick insect. The skinny girls are kind of gross especially #2 – Yikes!!!

I think the thing that makes the actresses look better, is the majority of them are smiling. And they don't look too malnourished. A smile always makes anything look better. Almost.

I really hate how much crap models get because of their weight. I used to model, was with ford since 13 yrs old then switched to elite at 20.
Most of these girls are made to feel they're never good enough by their agencies. They can even be put on suspension and not allowed to go to castings if they don't lose the weight (as elite did to me. I got down to 107lbs at 6'2 and they still wouldn't lift my suspension).
Also, most models are minors and very impressionable and forced to look as scary as they do. And when they look in the mirror they still see fat everywhere because not a single workday goes by without them being constantly put down.

Don't mean to preach, but take it easy on the poor girls.

It's not the models people are critiquing. It's the people and the system that pushes and idealizes unhealthy weights. We're all looking at the models going, "Gah! Eat a sandwich!" because they aren't healthy. And if we STOP saying that then we'd be reinforcing the idea that being underweight is normal. We're not be bully's we're being advocates.

I get that it's hard to hear, but try to understand it's with good intentions.

I understand what you're saying, but the fact that this entire post compared one group of women to another "healthy" group of women is in itself an attack on the models themselves. If this post was about the psychological effects of working in the fashion industry, then yes, it wouldn't be an attack on the models. Instead this post just brutally compared the body types of completely different women and branded one as "better" and "healthy." In my opinion, most of the models didn't even look too skinny. Or should I say, they were about as skinny as the celebrities.

The "OMG EAT A SAMMICH" comments are also pretty hurtful to naturally skinny people. Just saying. EATING WON'T CHANGE MY BODY TYPE.
I don't model, but people say I'm about as skinny as a model. But I'm not starving, this is just the way I look.

totally agree!!! some of are Naturally thin and that is that, we dont go around saying to people who are over weight to jump on the treadmill you need to lose a few! you can not judge someone you dont even know

That's because that's her signature pose. If you ever compare a number of a celebrity's shots, they're almost always doing the same pose (or couple of poses) over and over again on red carpets and publicity stunt shots because that's the pose that makes them look the best… so they believe or so someone at some point told them. Stars also pop those poses to accentuate any feature on the outfit they're wearing that is somehow interesting. Hence stars wearing a dress with no back will look over their shoulder at the cameras and model the back of their dress. Blake Lively does it… and puts her hand on her waist in the same shot, lol.
