#3. Ouch. Never thought I'd see "skinny bashers" on daily motivation. There's a difference between skinny and unhealthy. Being thin or motivating yourself to work out to stay whatever size it is you want to be, whether that's a 2,8 or a 12, shouldn't be fodder for judgement. Love your body, don't use it as an excuse to bash people smaller or bigger than you.

I don't think it was meant like that… I think its more women in general need to concentrate me on their sexyness at whatever size… And I know the pic is Marilyn Monroe, part of the reason she was so sexy was because she believed she was. Sexy is an attitude not a body type.

      • Angie

If that was the case then "the glorification of skinny" was unnecessary. This picture implies that if you are what society considers "skinny" you can't also be "sexy."

But… it is true that being skinny above all else is kind of glorified right now. Fifty years ago, the average American's weight was lower, but the average model's weight was higher. The gap between the two has increased dramatically. This photo may not be the best way to get the point across, but at least it's saying that women shouldn't worry if they aren't as skinny as the magazines. I think "glorification" is exactly the right word.

Referring to fat Marilyn as sexy is the same as referring to fat Elvis as sexy. Pick your idols at their peak at least.

I promise you if I ever hear the word "skinny bashing" or "skinny shaming" come out of someone's mouth in real life I will straight up LOSE IT!!! It doesn't say hey f-you skinny people. It says be happy with your body and feel sexy no matter what your shape. No one should glorify skinny, or shame skinny as they shouldn't do so with fat. If you are so butt hurt by things on the Berry, go else where. Don't bring us all down debby downers. Ok. I feel much better.

Skinny people are the only people that we CAN bash anymore. You can't call someone fat. You can't call someone stupid. But you can turn your nose and call someone skinny. Even if that person dedicates him/herself to be fit, society is fine with others calling that guy/gal a d1ckhead because he/she is so "skinny."

It's true, check it out. http://wickedimproper.com/2011/11/new-study-prove

    #3 I always pictured Marilyn having a nicer bum…

These days Marilyn would be all over the tabloids with her cellulite pointed out and talking about fat she is. Back in the day, no one called her fat.

      • lemon

She did have a quote that was "to all those girls who think they're fat for not being size 0 its not you who's ugly its society" so I imagine people must have wanted her to be 'thin''

Also remember back in the day there wasn't many magazines about celebs out so they didn't post unattractive pics on the front cover calling her fat or flabby!

        • moo

Marilyn Monroe never said that. Size Zero did not exist in her day (it came when Twiggy came along much later) and her size was not 'fat', it was the epitome of body shape! She was the size everyone wanted to be and would never have been considered big/fat/overweight. She never needed to speak out about body shape. I think these days it;s easy to judge everything in the past by today's standards.
