Don’t obsess over brands
I stopped shopping at Macy’s makeup counter after my very first runway show when the makeup professional opened his case, and inside I saw nothing but drugstore brands! No designer anything in sight!
You’re wasting money if you believe that the designer product is any better than what you can get at your corner drugstore. If you don’t believe me, try this comparison: Dior Mascara is currently $29.99 on Amazon. At Target, e.l.f. Mineral Infused Mascara is only $3. I bought both and tested and compared, and found NO DIFFERENCE that I could tell in how it looks on my lashes. Yes, be conscious about choosing products that meet your needs if you have sensitive eyes or skin, or are prone to breakouts. But generally speaking, get a little braver about trying a product that’s half the price, and see if it works! If it doesn’t, you’re only out $3.
Serious analysis goes on at the corporate level telling major cosmetic companies that most people develop emotional attachments to certain products based not on how the product works, but rather on how the packaging makes the consumer feel. So keep that in mind as you shop, and seek out the best-value products that work how you need them to regardless of brand name, slick packaging or shiny advertising.
