When you see the informative, helpful little voicemail notification on your phone, alerting you to latest received voicemail from your beloved mother, there is a decent chance that you will do literally anything else aside from listening to said voicemail. This isn’t your moms fault — it’s just that millennials are garbage humans, and listening to actual voicemails is too haaaaard. Why couldn’t she just text instead??
When the point inevitably comes to actually listen to these voicemails, it can be difficult to figure out how to best utilize your time. Do you stare soulfully at the TV with the sound on mute? Do you bite your fingernails, and then hide the chaff around your apartment in an effort to pretend you are not a disgusting monster?
Or, you could make a more productive use of this five-minute chunk of time by multitasking and contributing to your daily beauty routine!
Here are just a few excellent beauty hacks that are so ingenious and time-effective, you will absolutely reach for them the next time you find yourself in a lengthy phone situation which requires some (but not all!) of your attention.
1. Easy, beachy waves.
Who has the energy to devote precious time to achieving the tousled, messy, undone look? How much actual effort are you expected to put into looking like you “woke up like this”? Forget the curling irons and subsequent hickey-like neck burns — just flat-iron braided segments of hair, et voilà! The perfect waves.
2. Instant cream blush
Petroleum jelly + a rosy-hued lip stick or eyeshadow = the perfect dewy, cream blush. It truly is that simple. You’re welcome.
3. The perfect cut-crease.
Had so much fun creating this #cutcrease! Press play to see how I used a spoon to create it!! #spooncutcrease PRODUCTS USED: ✂️ @makeupforeverofficial ultra HD foundation & artist 15 shadow palette ✂️@benefitcosmetics hoola bronzer #benefit ✂️ @anastasiabeverlyhills pomade in medium brown and powder duo in ebony & clear brow gel #anastasiabrows #abhbrows #norvina @norvina ✂️ @lillylashes in style Miami #lillylashes #lillyghalachi #ghalachiglam ✂️ @urbandecaycosmetics glam rock heavy metal liner ✂️ @morphebrushes slate liner ✂️ @thekatvond requiem liquid lip #katvond —- SONG: FEELS BY KIIARA 🙂
The cut-crease is, essentially, a super smoky eye which focuses on your crease and brow bone rather than your eyelid (hence the name). While the successful results of the cut-crease are stunning, the process is more difficult than one might anticipate. Fortunately, that’s where a handy plastic spoon comes in! (Doesn’t it always?) Simply line the curve of the spoon up with your crease, and shade above the spoon and slightly into the crevice. You’ll feel silly, but your fierce eyes will reassure you that it was totally worth it.
4. The simultaneous Line ‘N Curl
If you want to truly MacGuyver your makeup routine, line your eyelash curler with a dark pencil liner before curling your lashes. Not only will you end up with curled lashes, you’ll also get a perfect smoky line on your upper eyelid. Amazing what can be achieved with true laziness!
5. The optical lip-illusion
Stop whining about how much you want Kim K’s lips and just try out this simple makeup trick: take a light, pale pink lip pencil and fill in the middle section of your lips before applying gloss. This will give the sneaky illusion of full, pouty lips without the hefty bills that come with collagen injections.
6. Quick and cute nail art
Usually, putting a Band-Aid on your finger would be a sign of injury. Now, however, it can be a sign of ingenuity! Simply use the perforated side of the bandage as a template when painting your nails to achieve cute, evenly-spaced polka dots.
7. Perfectly-perfumed hair
Instead of directly spraying your hair with perfume, spritz your favorite fragrance on your brush before running it through your hair. This way, a delightful cloud of sweet-smelling pixie dust will float around you around all day like a halo, making you feel like a fairy princess … okay, not really, but you will definitely smell better, so excuse the editorializing.
8. Rubber band touch-up
When you’re feeling like a fingertip upgrade, simply turn to the most flexible of office supplies for your saving grace. Using a rubber band around your nail will help you to get that flawless French manicure line, without worrying about cleanup.
9. All-day lip color
While this particular tip might make you feel like a spooky ghost, the result are well worth the bizarreness. To help your lip color stay put all day, apply your lipstick (blotting, then reapplying as usual), then lightly press a tissue to your mouth and dust the tissue with translucent powder. Your lip color will stay put, and you will feel like a literal wizard.
10. An Elmer’s manicure
Nothing is more satisfying than peeling dried glue from your fingertips — I don’t care you graduated from grade school many years ago, you know I’m right. Fortunately, you can put that delightful classroom pastime to good use with this hack. Simply cover your cuticles in multi-purpose glue, then let dry. Now, you have the perfect template for painting your nails, and you don’t have to worry about the mess — just peel off the glue when you’re finished!
11. Some fast-dry nail action
Waiting for nail polish to try is not only dull, it’s extremely accident-prone: one wrong move, and you’ve just smudged and/or undone a half hour’s work. In order to prevent this tragedy, spray your damp nails with nonstick cooking spray to speed up the drying process. Bonus: your cuticles will be super moisturized. Just make sure you don’t use the butter-flavored spray, though, because there is no way that’s ending well.
12. Red lipstick as an under-eye primer
Applying red lipstick to an area of your face that ISN’T your lips? On PURPOSE?? This malarky sounds completely counterintuitive, but it works like some sort of magic: the red of the lipstick works against the blue tones in dark under-eye circles to create a more neutral base for your followup concealer and foundation.
13. Magical lash powder
The powder creates more surface area for the mascara to grab onto, creating the illusion of thicker, more voluminous eyelashes. Bonus: it makes your eyeballs smell like a freshly-bathed baby. Just kidding. Sort of.
14. The world’s easiest lip stain
There’s a strong chance that this particular trick was discovered on accident by some Kool-Aid-loving soul who was enthusiastically hoovering a pitcher of the neon-red juice when they suddenly realized “Damn! My lips look dope!” Regardless, we should all thank them profusely, because this lip stain is by far the sweetest beauty hack around. Just wet a Q-tip, dip into some dry Kool-Aid mix, and apply to lips as desired. Fair warning: people may be much more keen on making out with you — but sometimes that’s just a risk we must take in life.
