MassArt graduates Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader moved to New York City back in 2007 to pursue their dream of starting their own jewelry line. Two years later they released their first collection. Lady Grey Jewelry quickly garnered the attention of worldwide publications and powerhouse celebrities such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez. But perhaps their most (in)famous request came in just the other day—an order for an $84 Helix Ear Cuff from one Ivanka Trump.
The co-designers allegedly sent the Trump daughter her ear cuff, but not before posting an Instagram picture of the note they attached to it:
The note reads,
“Dear Ivanka, Thank you so much for your web order! We’re happy to let you know that the proceeds of your sale have been generously donated to the American Immigration Council, the Everytown for Gun Safety organization, and the Hillary Clinton campaign. We hope you enjoy your new Lady Grey #helixearcuff. Best, Jill + Sabine.”
In the event anyone reading this needs clarification on why this is such a solid burn, let me refer to Ivanka’s dad Donald Trump on building a wall, Trump on the Second Amendment, and Trump as a human being in general.
When contacted by New York Magazine’s The Cut, Martinelli said:
“The note was included in her package and shipped last week directly from our studio in Brooklyn. While we were flattered to receive an order from Ivanka Trump, our social and political views couldn’t be further from those of the Trump campaign. When we received her order, we instantly felt compelled to take the money and donate it to a few organizations that were more aligned with our ideals.”
The biggest enigma regarding this entire situation, of course, is the thought of Ivanka Trump wearing a gold ear cuff. Doesn’t really seem her style. Is she trying to Make Earcuffs Great Again? Sad!
