Let’s be honest, we all have our guilty pleasure songs. You know what I’m talking about, the tunes we know every single last word to, but would never admit it. If we happen to be alone in our car and that one track comes on, we immediately start belting the lyrics at the top of our lungs. Then when someone pulls up next to us, we shamefully turn the music down like we’ve been caught in some treacherous act.
Those are the best aren’t they? I mean, chances are, plenty of other people share your same embarrassing favorites. That’s what we discovered when we started asking our editors about their’s. Needless to say, we’ve been singing obnoxiously for the past half hour and we may be getting kicked out of the office soon.
1. Smash Mouth – “Allstar”
Okay, everyone knows at least 80% of the lyrics to this song. If they say they don’t, we call bullshit. We know you’re already singing it and there’s no shame in the Smash Mouth game (well, maybe a little.) Hey now, you’re an all star…
2. Aaron Carter – “Aaron’s Party”
Dear god, I’m actually quite embarrassed to admit that upon listening to this video (suggested by our Social Media Coordinator, Alyssa), I was able to remember almost all of the lyrics. Yep, the teenage boy-band obsessed versions of ourselves are still alive and well. Btw, what is Aaron Carter doing with his life now? Anybody?
3. Marilyn Manson – “The Beautiful People”
This rather cheerful track was given to us by the great Jennifer McCall who confesses to knowing every single word. Tbh, I don’t hate this song, it’s pretty damn catchy. However, not what I would have expected from our ray of sunshine, Miss Jennifer.
4. Miley Cyrus – “Party In The USA”
I put my hands up, they’re playin’ my song…Okay, I’ll stop there. We all know where the rest of that song goes, but can you really blame us? Not only is it impossible to ignore, BUT when it appeared on Pitch Perfect, our memories were pretty much sealed. Let’s be real, that version is so much better anyway.
5. Len – “Steal My Sunshine”
Our other Social Media Coordinator, Ms. Justina admitted to not only knowing the words to this track by heart, but also listening to it on the regular. We can’t be mad though, this was definitely a ’90s anthem we can all still sing to.
6. Hilary Duff – “Come Clean”
Hilary Duff was seriously my teenage spirit animal. I willingly admit to knowing all the words to this song and many of her other tracks. In fact, just the other day I came across her CD (yes, a real CD they still exist) in my car and unashamedly blasted it all the way home.
7. Afroman – “Because I Got High”
Tbh, Afroman isn’t that embarrassing, at least not in my opinion. I think a good majority of us know the lyrics to this song, but maybe we shouldn’t be singing it too loudly in the office. 😉
8. Atomic Kittens – “The Tide Is High”
Atomic Kitten, Atomic fucking Kitten!? This may be near the top when it comes to embarrassment levels. I will confess I know most of the lyrics to this song, but when asked in the future I will deny I ever said so. What? “The Tide Is High” never heard of it…
9. The Yin Yang Twins – “Wait (The Whisper Song)”
Hey Lil Mama, let me whisper in your ear...Only the Ying Yang Twins would have an entire song of just whispering. I’m actually quite impressed with our Marketing Analyst Taylor who admitted to knowing this track completely by heart. Like, how?
10. Dixie Chicks – “Landslide”
This is another one of those songs that most people know 80-90% of the lyrics to, unless they’re dirty liars. Oh, Dixie Chicks where have you gone? Needless to say, our office mates weren’t the biggest fans of this one being sung at varying loud octaves from our less than in-tune voices.
11. Britney Spears – “…Baby One More Time”
Hit me baby one more time! Whether it’s the original or Britney’s sassy version of the track, every ’90s girl keeps the lyrics to this baby in their back pocket. Excuse us while we put this on repeat for the next hour or five, don’t judge.
12. The Pussycat Dolls – “Buttons”
Does it feel like middle school in here yet? Pushin’ up my buttons babe…Believe it or not, this particular song was confessed to us by a male employee in the office who has requested to remain anonymous. Though, we don’t judge, we bet he knows the whole dance too.
13. Fergie – “Fergalicious”
Make them boys go loco…Back in the day, Fergie was kind of a boss, right? Tbh, her music was never on the top of my playlist, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t know every word to this song. You know it too, don’t even play.
