Fall: It’s the most wonderful time of the year. But, unfortunately for pumpkin spice haters, it’s also the time when that particular blend of nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and clove gets shoved down our throats repeatedly in everything from coffee to Oreos to cream cheese.
I’m a pumpkin spice lover myself, but even I can admit we’ve taken our worship a little too far when stores are selling things like pumpkin spice chicken sausage and encouraging our cats to poop in pumpkin pie-scented litter. That’s why I’ve moved on to some of those long forgotten fall flavors, like apple, pecan, caramel, and pear.
There’s more to fall than swigging endless PSLs and gorging on pumpkin cheesecake muffins. So, whether you’re ready to kick pumpkin to the curb for good or you just need a little break, these fall flavor alternatives are sure to make 2016 your most delicious, adventurous autumn yet.

Avocado toast is so last season. Instead, go for this whole wheat toast with pears, cashew butter, cinnamon, and raisins. It’s basically fall on a plate.
18. Apple Cider Scones
The verge of a new season has me craving my all time favorite of the season, Apple Cider Donuts. I've made them at home, but the real deals are from Dunn's Cider Mill and they don't start making them until mid-September. I dawned on me that I could create the same taste in a scone. I reduce apple cider into more of a syrup consistency (by boiling it for 5-10 minutes), then use it in scones dough to give them that unmistakable flavor (plus some nutmeg + cinnamon), and also used it in the glaze. The result was so, so yummy. 🍎🍂☕️ http://jennysteffens.blogspot.com/2016/09/apple-cider-scones-new-fall-recipe.html
Because, why wait for the local coffee shop to get those apple cider scones when you can just make them yourself and eat the entire batch?
