On this, the day of our Lorde and Saviour Brangelina’s divorce filing, it only seems fitting that we turn our attentions to slightly greener pastures.
That is to say, it seems fitting to celebrate Jennifer Aniston, who is probably bouncing around and giggling in a fit of vindicated glee right about now.
Jennifer Aniston, AKA Rachel Green (AKA Friends style icon), worked at Central Perk up until Season 3 — which is shockingly lengthy, considering how often she mixed up orders and flagrantly neglected her waitressing duties. However, certain eagle-eyed Friends fans have noticed that, in addition to being a terrible waitress, Rachel was (perhaps) wearing a Central Perk uniform that audience members never even noticed.
As Bustle reports, Rachel wears denim tops paired with black skirts pretty consistently when she’s working at Central Perk. However, it soon became clear to fans that Rachel’s other coworkers were also wearing the same style of outfit (except Gunther, who, as manager, is exempt from such fashion restrictions).
Check it out:
Rachel rocks the light-washed denim, as per Central Perk’s requirements.
Sometimes, she’s spotted wearing a denim vest in place of a denim shirt (because she’s a rebel like that), but her skirt/pants are always black.
There’s that sleeveless denim again.
DENIM + BLACK = CENTRAL PERK
HAVE I DRIVEN THE POINT HOME ENOUGH YET?
This particular fan theory seems fairly grounded and reasonable, considering the evidence. It really does seem as though Rachel is consistently clad in some variation of a denim top whenever she’s working at Central Perk.
But is it also possible that the costume designer was just really into denim tops being Rachel’s thing? Is it also possible that it was just the ’90s, and it was impossible to escape from denim? Could it be that there is no deep-seated hidden meaning for Rachel’s wardrobe, and Jennifer Aniston was just like “DRAPE ME IN DENIM, BITCHES”?
Yes, probably. But Friends is over and we need to find all the ways to analyze it in its absence. So just hush and let us have this Easter egg.
