We’ve all had those moments where we’re out in public and someone does something so unbelievably rude that we can’t help but think, “Holy shit, who raised this person? I wish their parents were here to see this.”
Maybe it’s a dude who cat-calls you or someone that cuts you off in traffic. Whatever the case, it’s a daydream many of us share that a douchebag’s parents will rush from the shadows, thump them on the head, and force them to be a better human being right then and there. It pretty much never happens, but for one UK mom, the fantasy of instant karma became a reality after an obnoxious 20-something got schooled by his dad for telling her to shut her crying baby up.
Lucy Hatami recently wrote on Facebook that she was out to breakfast with her 8-month-old son when she had a run-in with a guy in his 20s who clearly forgot his manners. When her son started crying, she heard the guy rudely mutter, “I wish she’d shut that thing up!”
Hatami was fully prepared to go nuclear on the guy, but luckily his dad was there to do it for her. In her Facebook post, she explained:
Before I could even respond his dad comes up behind him clips him round the ear and says ‘What and you think you were perfect? You were a right little sod. Now stop being a brat, go up there and apologise to her and offer to get her breakfast as she clearly has her hands full!’
Not only did the mom get an apology, she also got her breakfast and a fresh cup of coffee carried to her table for her. Plus, the disgruntled 20-something got a much-needed lesson in compassion and kindness.
Since Hatami’s post went up on Facebook, it’s been shared thousands of times, and people can’t seem to get enough of the dad who swooped in like Batman to stop his son from being a dick. Hatami told Someecards she wasn’t expecting her story to go viral. “I was just writing a Facebook status about the bizarre encounter I had,” she explained.
Obviously no one loves eating in a restaurant with a fussy baby—as a mom of two, I can promise you the baby’s parents enjoy it least of all—but no one likes an adult who acts like a total jerk either. Too bad we can’t hire this dad to walk around and police all the assholes we encounter in our daily lives.
