As females, we tend to spend an inordinate amount of time slaving over our daily makeup routines. Even if you’re not one to adhere a full face every morning, the mere act of applying a layer of moisturizer or foundation coupled with some mascara and lip gloss is never as quick as we’d like it to be.
Imagine all of the things we could accomplish in the time it takes us to put on makeup. Not to mention, the money we could save. The possibilities are endless. Why not go all Alicia Keys for a day and see what you’re able conquer? In honor of National No Makeup Day, here are just a few of the activities you could be doing instead of putting on makeup.
1. Get to work early.
Skipping your morning makeup routine means you can start your morning commute sooner. This allows for less rush and maybe even less traffic on your way to work. Plus, showing up early to work can get you serious brownie points with your boss.
2. Read the morning news.
Another way to spend those extra few minutes you would normally use to apply makeup, is reading the morning news. Stay informed and find out what’s going on in the world today. Use your knowledge to contribute to conversations with coworkers over morning coffee.
3. Cook a real breakfast.
Let’s be honest, the majority of the time we’re in such a rush to get out the door that we’re lucky if we remember to grab a pop tart or piece of toast for “breakfast.” With a little extra time afforded to you by going sans makeup, you can actually cook a real hardy breakfast of eggs or maybe french toast.
4. Take a walk.
Taking a relaxed walk first thing in the morning is a great way to start your day. Not only is it healthy for you to get up and get outside, but if you’re a dog mom like myself, your pup will be more than happy to accompany you for a longer stroll.
Meditation is another great alternative use of your time that will help you get your morning off on the right foot. Instead of spending half an hour or more applying makeup, take a moment to sit in silence and think about what you hope to accomplish in the coming day as well as all that you have to be grateful for.
6. Work out.
If you’ve been meaning to get back in the gym, but haven’t had time, now you do. Leave your house a little earlier and get a workout in before heading to the office. The endorphin boost will work wonders for your morning mood and the best part is, no one expects you to be wearing makeup at the gym anyway.
7. Call your mom.
We are all guilty of not calling our moms enough and it makes their day to hear from us. So, pick up the phone and call (not text) your mom. Ask her about her life and tell her about yours. There’s no time like the present to catch up.
8. Make your bed.
Yes, that’s right make your damn bed. Not to sound like your mother, but it really is important to make your bed every day. There’s something about coming home to a tidy room that makes you just feel like you’re winning at life, if even just a little bit.
9. Plan out your day.
What do you hope to accomplish today? What are your goals and what steps are you taking to achieve them? Take this extra time normally spent curling your lashes or packing on foundation to really think about how you are going to kick ass today.
