Every bride-to-be dreams about her wedding day; the dress, the guests, the cake, and most importantly her groom. For one future bride out of Amarillo, Texas, the big day held another more personal importance.
Haley Smith had struggled with her size most of her life, but she was done settling for a body she was unhappy with. So, she made it her mission to find a healthier lifestyle leading up to her wedding day. She also decided to document her entire inspirational journey on Instagram and her transformation is blowing the internet away.

#transformationtuesday I've been asked to post my story a couple of times, so here goes. The left picture was on my proposal day on July 18, 2015, and the right was my bridal shower on August 6, 2016. When Matt proposed last year, I saw my pictures and didn't even recognize myself. My whole adult life, I have struggled with my weight, but this was my highest. I had let myself go and didn't even realize how far I had gotten. On that day, I made up my mind to make a change. I was tired of hiding in pictures, getting winded walking across a parking lot, skipping out on activities, feeling lazy, and most of all being embarrassed of myself. No ONE thing made me how I am today. It was a combination of about every health and fitness option I could find. So don't think there's some magic pill, wrap, gym membership, meal, vitamin, app, surgery, diet, workout, waist trainer, book, hypnosis, shake, powder or anything else that will just do it for you. It's finding your own way and using the tools that work for you. It's making the right healthy choices for your body. In the last year, I've made some big life choices and huge lifestyle changes, and I couldn't be more happy with myself. Smith admitted to struggling with weight for most of her life, but it wasn’t until her fiancée Matt proposed back in July of 2015 that she realized a change needed to be made.
“When Matt proposed last year, I saw my pictures and didn’t even recognize myself. My whole adult life, I have struggled with my weight, but this was my highest. I had let myself go and didn’t even realize how far I had gotten,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
So, the bride-to-be set out to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle in hopes of reaching a weight she could be proud of.
“On that day, I made up my mind to make a change. I was tired of hiding in pictures, getting winded walking across a parking lot, skipping out on activities, feeling lazy and most of all being embarrassed of myself.”
On her account, Smith emphasized that there were a variety of weight loss techniques that helped her along the way.

#2: Think about investing in a fitness watch
For today's #motivationmonday I wanted to talk about investing in a fitness watch! I currently use the Fitbit Blaze, but I started with a Fitbit Flex, upgraded to a Fitbit Charge HR and plan to get a Fitbit Surge one day. I wasn't sure how useful it would be, so I started small and got better ones as I learned more about what I wanted to track. It doesn't matter what brand you go with, whether it's a Fitbit, Apple, Nike, Garmin, Polar, Jawbone, etc. as long as it has the features you are looking for. Wearing a fitness tracker is a great way to motivate yourself because you can set daily goals to walk, get your heart rate up, sleep well, burn calories, and more. I go through phases of really monitoring my daily progress, and I'm most active when I do. You can challenge and encourage your friends with the same trackers to keep each other accountable. #3: Reward yourself every step of the way
Ok so I'm starting a series called #motivationmonday I get asked all the time how I've stayed motivated to keep working out and eating healthy. Trust me, it's not easy! There are days that I skip workouts and eat a whole pizza by myself, but it's all about getting back on track. Each Monday I'm going to try to post a trick that has helped me keep pushing! Today's is about rewarding myself! I personally decided to reward myself at each 10lb marker, but you can pick anything. Reward yourself for finishing a month long squat challenge, for making it through a weekend without breaking macros, joining a gym, or for whatever your journey is. I usually picked things that had to do with fitness, because it would encourage me even more. So I got bike gear, a park pass to hike more often, a new yoga mat, etc. Try to come up with a good reward system to keep you going when things get tough! #4: Set yourself attainable goals
So in all of my wedding craze, I forgot to post my October Goals. I still set them in September, but never got around to making it public. Since I knew I would be in NZ, I wanted to make my goals about staying on track. I want to have fun on my honeymoon, but I want to keep making choices towards my goals. So I decided to bring my huge water bottle around to keep track of water, I've been keeping up with my vitamins, hitting my step goals and logging a minimum of 9 active hours bc this country is just busy, and of course log my food. I'm definitely slipping on the last one!! I am still getting a couple a day, but I'm snacking so much more that I don't log. Now that it's out there for y'all to see, maybe I'll get back to it! And last but not least, I added this today. In the last two days, I've been mentally and emotionally being really tough on myself. I am having lots of self doubt and self confidence issues. So I am making it one of my daily goals to try to be sweet and kind to myself. I want to love me more on this trip! So there you have it! #5: Create a motivational board or space in your room
So round 2 of #MotivationMonday. In my closet, I keep my inspiration board. This wall has quotes that make me want to keep pushing, reminders of why I started, food for thought, monthly goals, rewards, pounds to go, challenges that I can check off daily, lists, reminders, pictures, dreams, etc. I keep mine in my closet so I can see it every day when I get dressed, but you can put yours on your fridge, in the bathroom, workout room, or wherever works for you. This wall is to encourage me and inspire me when times get tough! I update it monthly and cycle through different quotes or pictures that help me and refresh my goals and lists. Having it up to date keeps me going back to basics and reminding myself why I started and why this is important to me. If you think this is something that would work for you, go for it! #6: Spoil yourself with some cute workout clothes
This week's #motivationmonday is something that I post relatively often. Something that motivates me is setting my workout clothes out the night before. It helps me for a couple of reasons: 1. I don't have to waste time looking for clothes in the morning. I'm usually tired and don't want to dig through drawers. I can even get dressed in the dark so I don't burn my eyes out of their sockets by turning on a light at 5:30AM. 2. I don't always pick perfectly matching clothes, but when I do, I feel like I'm looking awesome, and I wanna kick butt during my workout! 3. If I miss my morning workout, but I come home to my clothes already out, it gives me one less excuse to skip. My clothes are already there, so I may as well get it in! This is a super easy motivator, so give it a try! Lay those clothes out tonight, and don't skip tomorrow's run, Zumba, spin class, or whatever you have planned! #7: Share your journey with the world
According to Mashable, Smith says documenting her process was by far the most motivating way to hold herself accountable throughout the entire process.
“Motivation has been tough, but my biggest help has been switching my Instagram over to a strictly fitness account. Once I had a few dozen (to eventually a few hundred) followers that were supporting and encouraging me, I felt like I couldn’t let them down either. Having that accountability along with thinking about different posts each day really made fitness and health stay at the forefront of my mind. When that didn’t do it though, I’d decorate my scale or hang up motivational quotes around the house. Any little thing that could keep that fire burning was worth a try.”
Smith and her husband Matt had an adorable wedding this month.
Sorry it took so long to get a picture up! Matt and I actually have ZERO full body pictures of us alone or of just me. 🙄🙄 We have to wait until we get back to get a picture of us together from the photographer, but even from them, there are NO pictures of just me in the dress haha. So if you are getting married, be sure your photographer, family and friends remember to get pictures of just YOU and just YOU and your HUSBAND!! Because unfortunately we didn't, and that sucks haha. On her big day, not only did she look absolutely flawless, but Smith had loss an unbelievable 100 pounds. She’s living proof that no goal is out of reach if you work hard enough.
Though her journey has come to a close, Smith maintains her healthy lifestyle choices even on her honeymoon.
