Look, here’s the deal. If you’re going to start a women’s empowerment campaign, more power to you (pun intended). But don’t name it after a phrase that a certain presidential candidate made famous — a phrase that involves grabbing women by their genitals. Kinda defeats the purpose.
Yes, there’s a new campaign called …. *sigh* …. “Grab Her By The Brain,” an attempt to confront “gender inequality with an unparalleled positivity and enthusiasm.” It sells hats with the catchy new slogan, with proceeds going to an anti-bullying charity.
Good on you guys. But here’s the thing: any reference to “grab them by the pussy” really riles up our PTSD. There are plenty of other phrases you could choose that don’t invoke sexual assault. Anyway, then this tweet by actor Gregg Sulkin got everyone REALLY stirred up.
This post rubbed some people the wrong way — mainly women who are tired of being grabbed.
And the shitstorm ensued:
So yeah. Empowerment = good. Grabbing women by any part of their body = bad. Next time, don’t make your girl power group sound like a bunch of hungry zombies.
