Hocus Pocus is a Halloween mainstay for anyone with a soul/anyone who doesn’t like watching horror movies. It’s basically the perfect spooky movie: there are witches, there’s a token zombie, there’s a talking black cat, and a pretty sweet musical number. What more could you possibly ask for?
Well, if your childhood Halloweens were basically marked by the presence of Bette Midler dressed as Winnifred Sanderson, then prepare to have a nostalgia-filled freakout.
On Friday evening, Midler attended a Halloween party for the New York Restoration Project (a non-profit which she founded) in full Hocus Pocus garb, thereby making all our childhood dreams and nightmares come true.
Naturally, Bette looked like sheer perfection as the iconic Winnie Sanderson, complete with character teeth and a wig that could probably take up an entire closet in a Manhattan apartment.
Just one look at this costume, and all of my (admittedly pretty recent) memories of Hocus Pocus come flooding back.
I mean, just look at how devious she is!
Midler was so in character, she actually brought her own broomstick — because how else was she supposed to get home?
She even put some hexes on undeserving guests, which included a very orange Donald Trump.
She also gave him an actual punch for good measure, because Winnie S. knows how to throw down.
While the costume is all fun and well for Halloween, it really just reminds us that we need a Hocus Pocus sequel in our lives, like, yesterday. Which could actually happen, since all three “Sanderson sisters” have said that they are open to the possibility.
CAN YOU IMAGINE??
Please, Bette/Winnie, use your magical powers to make this dream become a reality.
Also, if you were planning on dressing up as the lead Sanderson sister for Halloween, perhaps you should just pack your bags and go home — because how the f*ck are you supposed to top this??
