5 People Who Made Us Say “Hell Yes” This Week

It goes without saying that this week has been a tough one, perhaps one of the most tumultous weeks we’ve had in a long time.

While becoming negative and pessimistic may seem like the easiest thing to do, it’s important to remember how much positivity still exists in the world. If you’re having trouble finding a shining light in your darkness, check out these 5 people who made us smile and say “hell yes” this week.

1. This kid who bought his classmate new shoes.

If you have yet to see this now-viral video, get your tissues ready because it will tug at even the toughest heart strings. It’s unfortunate how much bullying still goes on in schools across the world, but it’s beyond inspiring to see the kids that are able to stand up against it. One student noticed a boy at his school was being bullied for his shoes, so he gifted him a pair of Air Jordans and the whole exchange was caught on video.

2. The Knicks who honored this veteran by giving him his own service dog.

Yet another positively heartwarming act of kindness took place this week amongst the madness. During the Knicks’ game in Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, the team was honoring a recently retired veteran and decided to surprise him with his very own service dog. Luciano Yulfo had been on the waiting list for his service animal for over a year and thanks to NBA’s “Hoops for Troops” program, he finally got one.

I’m not crying, you’re crying!

3. Leslie Knope, who hilariously addressed the public in its time of most desperate need.

Following a shocking and somewhat upsetting close to the 2016 election, the world was at a loss for words. So many questions still remained and we needed a leader to speak out. Fortunately, Leslie Knope stepped up to the plate in a way that only she can. In an open letter to the public, Knope hilariously addressed Trump and it was just the spirit-lifting we needed.

“We will be kind to each other, and supportive of each other’s ideas, and we will do literally anything but accept this as our fate.”

4. Ellen Degeneres when she gave her uplifting post-election speech.

In hard times and in good times, Ellen never fails to radiate positivity just by simply being herself. Before the election results were announced on Tuesday, the host felt compelled to speak to her audience in the spirit of unity and hope.

“People have been very passionate about this race,” Degeneres observed. “And I think it’s because we all love our country ― we just have different ideas about what’s best for it, which is part of what makes America great.”

Amen Ellen, Amen.

5. These adorable toddlers attempting the #MannequinChallenge.

Does it really get any cuter than this? The Mannequin Challenge has become a viral internet trend in the past week. We’ve seen everyone from Beyoncé to Blac Chyna mid-labor attempting the challenge and now, these most adorable group of toddlers made their own version. They tried their very best to stay still, but like any toddler they could not stop fidgeting and it’s absolutely hilarious. If this doesn’t make you smile, we don’t know what will.
