As someone who has never been particularly interested in NBC’s The Voice, I was hesitant that the show could pull off a performance that actually piqued my interest. I’m happy (and somewhat chagrined) to report that I was wrong.
During Tuesday night’s episode, judge/host Miley Cyrus brought out her godmother, the one and only Dolly Parton, to perform a rousing rendition of “Jolene.” The a cappella group, Pentatonix, provided backup vocals while the two Tennessee belles belted out the heart-wrenching country song.
I must say, as someone who is not a fan of country music or reality TV, the performance is definitely worth watching, regardless of your level of interest in The Voice. It’s a nice reminder that, in spite of her bizarre outfits and stage personas, Miley Cyrus actually has a pretty stellar voice. And, of course, I will take any possible excuse to see Dolly Parton decked out in a bedazzled outfit.
Earlier this year, Parton spoke about her relationship with Cyrus in an interview with Cosmopolitan. According to Parton, the two are more “like an older sister and a baby sister.”
“We laugh a lot because we’re country Tennessee girls, and we know the same kind of people and all that,” she continued. “We do have a special bond that you can’t really describe.”
Now, if only these two would actually team up for some sort of world tour — that’s a Miley move I could definitely get behind.
