13 Moms Who Basically Proved Themselves To Be Superheroes In 2016

Though I have yet to embark on the miraculous journey that is motherhood, I can only imagine after watching my own mother and dozens of others around me that it is one of the most difficult and most rewarding jobs you could ever have.

Not everyone is cut out to raise kids and there’s nothing wrong with that, but those who are truly stand out as amazing moms, super heroes if you will. This year saw some of the best mom moments on record and we felt the need to highlight at least a few of these stellar women who kick ass every day and never take any credit.

1. Chrissy Teigen Flaunting Her Stretch Marks

If you hadn’t noticed by the amount of times we’ve written about her, we’re pretty big fans of Chrissy Teigen. One of the many traits we appreciate about this star is her ability to take on her motherhood role in the realest way. She never shies away from the good, the bad, or the ugly.

There are so many mommy Teigen moments we’ve loved in the past year, but my personal favorite was the time she hilariously flaunted her stretch marks on Snapchat for the entire world to see. Talk about some ballsy AF #MomGoals. She’s living proof that a sense of humor is absolutely pertinent to being a parent.

2. This Mom Who Posted Her Diaper Pic After Childbirth

Pregnancy is a miraculous part of the human experience, but that doesn’t mean it’s always pretty. As any mom can probably tell you, there are many parts of child rearing that aren’t necessarily “beautiful,” but they’re real which holds some beauty in and of itself if you ask me.

New mother Amanda Bacon decided to keep it very real by posting a photo of herself just 24 hours after giving birth while wearing those giant mesh underwear stuffed with a giant pad that any mom will recognize. She wrote: “I’m sharing this picture because it’s real. This is motherhood; it’s raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one.” We honestly could not agree more. Why not share the reality and all it has to offer instead of the unrealistic photos we see everywhere?

3. Pink Posing Topless To Celebrate Her Pregnancy

Not only is Pink an all around badass human being and insanely successful pop-star, she’s also one of the coolest celebrity moms on the planet. Her first child Willow Sage (why couldn’t my parents name me that!?) is an absolute beauty.

Now that the singer is expecting her second baby she posed in an adorable photoshoot to celebrate the pregnancy and we can’t get enough. The caption reads: “the snuggle is real” and features little Willow’s hands around her mother’s belly. It doesn’t get much cuter than that.

4. A Single Mom Who Made Sure Her Son Wouldn’t Feel Left Out

I can’t begin to imagine how difficult (and amazing) being a parent can be, let alone a single parent. Yevette Vasquez of Fort Worth, Texas is a single mother who would do anything and everything to make her kid happy.

When her son’s school decided to have an event specifically for dads and students, she didn’t want him to feel left out. So, Vasquez AKA “Super Mom” decided to don a mustache and baseball cap and attend the event with her son. “He was really excited,” she said. “He was shaking and said, ‘Thank you.’ I told him, ‘I did this for you so you can have fun.'”

5. Olivia Wilde And Her Realistic Mom Hacks

Motherhood often means taking on many roles; mutlitasker, caretaker, cook, and without a doubt problem solver. One of our favorite female celebs Olivia Wilde recently got very real about the messy struggles that being a mom can bring and shared a “hack” that mothers everywhere can appreciate (as if we needed any more reason to be obsessed with her.)

Wilde was on a trip when she realized that she had run out of storage bags for her breastmilk after having her second child Daisy. In a pinch, she grabbed 2 mason jars and used them instead. The actress posted a very real photo of herself pumping into the said mason jars proving that anything can be DIY if you need it to be. Fans couldn’t get enough of Wilde’s hilariously honest picture of motherhood. If that’s not #MomGoals, I don’t know what is.

6. The Mom Who Incredibly Memed Herself

Everyone likes to think that their mom is the coolest mom out there or at least those of us who have surpassed our angsty teenage days do. However, there is one mother out there who has ranked herself at the top of the cool-mom tree by turning herself into one of the most viral internet memes of 2016.

Surely by now you’ve seen remnants of the Evil Kermit meme come across your newsfeeds, but you’ve never seen this version. When 19-year old Taylor texted her Mom, Cheryl, about hanging out with her friends late one night, Cheryl replied with this meme and we can’t deal. Someone give her a trophy.

7. Chewbacca Mom Finding Humor In The Simplest Ways

Aside from becoming one of the internet’s eternal legends, Candace Payne AKA Chewbacca Mom taught mothers everywhere an important lesson: it’s okay to treat yo’ self.

Payne clarifies in her video that the mask she purchased was for herself and not her children and she indulges herself in the most simple form of entertainment that brings her a ridiculously adorable amount of joy. I think we could all use some more Chewbacca Mom in our lives. Just when you thought 2016 was by far our worst year, she shows up to make us smile.

8.  The Mom Who Made Her Daughter An Apology Cake

Next on our list of 2016’s most incredible mothers is this poor mom whose concern for her daughter’s well-being went a tad bit overboard. When Rachel Gemis was 16 she was given a routine drug test at school an error in the system caused her results to come back positive for pretty much every drug including pot, cocaine, heroin, and meth.

As you can imagine, this caused quite the uproar in Gemis’s home and her parents did not believe that she was clean. They even discussed checking her into rehab. Once the school finally rectified the situation, and Gemis was able to do the “I told you so” dance, her mother baked her the most hilarious apology cake for believing it was true. Not only was her mom keen to get Gemis help if the results had been accurate, but she was also willing to admit to her mistake. Go mom, go!

9. Jana Kramer

Country music star and actress Jana Kramer won her title for kickass mom this year when she expertly reminded haters to stop telling her how to raise her own children. Kramer was at the store excitedly shopping for baby food and shared an Instagram pic of her purchase.

While this should be seen as an adorable new mother getting ready to go home and feed her baby, several people commented on her photo with judgmental opinions about what Kramer should be feeding her child. Instead of getting upset, she clapped back with a pic of handwritten note, kindly asking people to mind their own damn business and we loved it.

10. This Adorably Confused Mom Who Thought She Bought A Masterpiece

Some parents like to believe that they have a fairly decent taste in artwork, but most of them are wrong. One Twitter named Daniel user received a mysterious text from his mother claiming that she had purchased a rare painting for $250 and had hung it in their kitchen.

However, when Daniel opened the photo of said “rare painting” he quickly realized that the artwork was actually a rendering of the popular Spongebob Squarepants character, Squidward. Daniel’s mother was hilariously duped into believing she had purchased a rare artifact and even wanted to attempt to sell it for more. Oh, boy. Needless to say, Daniel had to have a chat with his mom about the one and only Squidward. This might be one of the most hilarious mom moments to cross the internet this year.

11. One Mom’s Instruction Manual For Her Husband

As every mom knows, leaving your children if even for just a few days can be extremely nerve wracking. Yes, you like to think (and hope) that your husband knows what TF he’s doing, but let’s be honest that’s not always the case. So, when Meghan Maza Oeser, a mother of six, got ready to head out for a much-needed girls weekend she decided to leave her husband a few instructions and they’re too hilariously accurate. The opening statements alone will have any mother bent over in laughter and understanding.

“Dearest Husband,
I’m writing this to you out of love, not fear. I wanted to go over a few things with you before you embark on this weekend alone…with the others.

Nighttime, daytime, breakfast time, and somewhere around lunchtime can easily be mistaken for pure HELL, with Satan coming off as a My Little Pony in comparison.”

12. A Mom And Daughter’s Hilarious Text Thread About Tampons

The bond between mother and daughter is a special one. Every mom is responsible for teaching their little girl the trials and joys of becoming a woman and guiding them through all the important milestones along the way.

Belinda Hankins found herself approaching one of these milestones with her daughter when she received a stream of panicked text messages from the 13-year-old who could not manage to find tampons at the drug store. Hankins handled the situation with the best possible responses and their entire conversation thread is enough to make any woman laugh through her premenstrual tears.

13. This Super Mother Who Is The Multitasker We All Dream To Be

Last, but certainly not least on our list of 2016 superhero mothers is sports and dance medicine physician Megan Meier. According to Cosmo, Meier was 35 weeks pregnant and her husband was out of town when her childcare for her 3-year old child fell through on an evening she had to work a football game. Talk about a headache, but instead of calling in to work she strapped her toddler into a carrier on her back and went to work like a boss.

“I really believe that you can have it all and find a great balance to a multi-faceted career and life,” Meier wrote. “However, it takes a lot of hard work and improvisation at times.”

Any mother can appreciate this level of commitment to multitasking and taking care of your kiddos no matter what.
