Though the year hasn’t quite come to a close yet, several social media outlets are already reminiscing over the top moments of 2016. In addition to their personalized “Year In Review,” Facebook is known for sharing its top annual posts every December.
This year, however, saw the wildly successful launch of ‘Facebook Live’ and it seemed only appropriate to share the top videos instead. This new live feature has given users everywhere the ability to share important life moments in real time, even if that means trying their very first Chewbacca mask on or playing Pokémon Go. Whatever the topic, these were the top live videos of 2016 that we still can’t get enough of.
1. Candace Payne, Chewbacca Mom
It should come as no surprise that Chewbacca Mom takes first place for the Most Viewed Live Video on Facebook. Candace Payne might be the most adorable human being in the entire world. Her pure child-like joy over the Star Wars toy she purchased at Kohl’s is absolutely contagious. This video has become my go-to on any day that I’m in desperate need of a mood boost. How can you not smile while watching it?
2. Ted Yoder, Soundscapes
Sliding into second place is this mesmerizing rendition of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” played on a hammered dulcimer. Yes, that’s an actual instrument and apparently Ted Yoder has a special talent for it. Following an entrancing musical performance, Yoder introduces viewers to an adorable pet raccoon and we are in love.
3. Buzzfeed, Countdown to the next presidential election
Third place was earned by none other than BuzzFeed for their hilarious live timeline counting down to the 2020 presidential election. After the surprising choice for this year’s presidential elect was announced, it’s fair to say we will be consulting this clock more often than not and painfully waiting for the madness to end.
4. Atlanta Buzz, People are lining up to hug police officers in Dallas
Next on the list is this extremely moving video of people lining up to hug members of the Dallas police force after multiple officers were killed during a protest against police brutality. Now reaching over 38 million views, this video is sending a powerful message to all of those affected by violence in their cities.
5. NBC News, Election results
Ranking in at #5, is NBC’s live electoral map from this year’s presidential election. The video remains still on the final results and we still can’t quite accept what we’re seeing.
6. Under the Hood, Video of a truck completely carved out of wood
In 6th place is a full coverage video of a truck made entirely out of wood. While I’m far from a car/truck aficionado, I can certainly appreciate this as an art piece. How long did it take them to construct this? And also, who TF will drive it?
7. Viral Thread, Population count from US to CA
Following the wooden truck is this laughable live visual count of the Canadian and US populations after the presidential election. Looks like Canada’s going to need to make some room. Maybe this is why their immigration site crashed…
#8 on Facebook’s list is CNN’s footage of the Empire State Building displaying the dismal results of the 2016 presidential election. The bright lights of NYC have never been so depressing.
9. Dena Blizzard, Pokemon Go for moms “Chardonnay Go”
Next up is this hilarious video (which we can’t believe wasn’t ranked higher) where a woman plays the mom version of Pokémon Go called “Chardonnay Go.” The concept is similar to Pokémon except instead of searching for characters, you’re finding glasses of Chardonnay and we want to play right now.
10. Super Deluxe, Election map
Last, but certainly not least, was this hilarious live video of the 2016 election map incinerating before our very eyes. We can’t imagine a more accurate representation of this past year.
