Nature can produce some formidable and frightening creatures (just take a look at our recent presidential election! Ba-dum-CHA!), and the most ghastly of these beasts are those that lurk in the ocean.
Roman Fedortsov is a deep sea fisherman who operates out of Murmansk, a city in Russia. And, while the job may sounds fairly innocuous, it turns out that being a deep sea fisherman requires dealing with demons on a regular basis.
Okay, not demons — but fish from the darkest depths of the ocean, which are essentially the same thing.
Earlier this year, Fedortsov’s account took off when he started sharing photos of his most unusual catches to Twitter. Not surprisingly, the bizarre nautical discoveries are utterly nightmare-inducing.
WHY DOES A FISH NEED FANGS?
I don’t understand, is this an acid-induced fever dream?
STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT, FISH.
This fish has f*cking SPINES.
Don’t worry, it’s fine, you’re just staring into the gaping maw of Hell!
I’m SO HAPPY to learn that ocean has SPIDERS.
Just a tiny harbinger of doom!
I think this is the fish version of a Death Eater.
Oh, good. If there’s one thing the deep ocean needs, it’s more things that ooze slime.
Calm down fish, you’re already dead. Stop freaking out.
An invisible fish, I guess?!?
Okay, these tiny, slimy fish are actually kind of cute (in a disgruntled sort of way).
This fish’s predatory gaze is making me uncomfortable.
I’m pretty sure this fish isn’t even real.
OKAY, GOODNIGHT, I AM DONE WITH THESE GARBAGE MONSTERS.
Fedortsov’s photos prove that 1.) our basic concept of “fish” is woefully limited, and 2.) the ocean is a terrifying place that deserves our respect and our distance, because it regularly breeds varied species of hell-beasts.
While these creatures only reside in the deepest trenches of the sea, it might be best to swear off swimming in the ocean altogether — just to be safe.
