Here’s What’s Coming To Netflix In January That Doesn’t Suck

2017 is so close we can barely handle the anticipation. We’re turning the proverbial garbage of a page that was 2016, and beginning a fresh chapter.

This is our chance to start over and fuck, do we really need it. With a new year and a new month afoot, there are a whole slew of Netflix releases to look forward to. So, get comfy with your favorite binge-worthy partner and get to scrolling.

1. Around the World in 80 Days (2004)

scr-4

First up on Netflix’s January additions, is the adventure comedy film based on Jules Verne’s novel and starring Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan and Cécile de France. Side note: this film made 72.2 million at the box office when it was released. I mean, it’s funny and all, but 72 million?

2. Bee Movie (2007)

bee movie disneyscreencaps com 2147 Heres Whats Coming To Netflix In January That Doesnt Suck

Remember that time Jerry Seinfeld did a voice over for a frantic bee? Yes, that was for this film and I admit that it’s one of the funniest animated movies I’ve ever watched. Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, and Chris Rock are just a few of the other star voices featured in this movie.

3. Boogie Nights (1997)

boogie6

The one, the only Boogie Nights slides into Netflix’s library in January and we’re pretty stoked. Teenage busboy Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg) makes his way to California and gets discovered by porn director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds). Before long Adams becomes an adult film sensation and all sorts of shenanigans ensue.

4. Braveheart (1995)

Next up is the classic Mel Gibson drama, Braveheart. This Scottish warrior’s battle for freedom in the First War of Scottish Independence can only be compared to our unyielding fight to survive 2016. Okay, maybe that’s a tad dramatic, but what better way to commemorate a new year than with an epic tale of heroism?

5. Caddyshack (1980)

untitled-5_0

Any and all Bill Murray additions to Netflix are reason for celebration. Especially, when that addition involves a group of gooney men trying to rid their golf course of a pesky gopher. This film calls for a nice tall glass of eggnog and some humorous company.

6. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

2524169-et

Phone home…I’m honestly surprised that this film is just now making its debut on Netflix, but I’m not mad about it. Sometimes you need a nice trip back to childhood, particularly when the holidays come to an end and you have to return to the drudgery of “adulthood.”

7. Ocean’s Twelve (2004)

oceanstwelvecast

The second installment in the Oceans films is making its way onto the streaming service next month and you might just need a wine night with the gals to truly appreciate the glory that is a young Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

8. Superman Returns (2006)

superman_returns_01

Even if you don’t consider yourself much of a super hero movie enthusiast (which I do not), this version of Superman played by Brandon Routh is actually pretty decent. Plus, you get to stare at Routh for a solid two and a half hours so there’s no losing here.

9. The Parent Trap (1961)

Another classic making its debut in January is the original Parent Trap. Yes, the original not the Lindsay Lohan version that we’ve all come to know and love. However, this one is particularly more enjoyable to watch as of late because you don’t have to be depressed by the fact that Lohan is no longer the sweet tween she used to be.

10. The Shining (1980)

If you have never seen The Shining, please crawl out from under the rock you’ve been residing in and proceed to poison your mind like the rest of the world with this twisted Stephen King thriller. Also, maybe don’t watch it right before traveling and/or staying in a remotely located hotel.

11. V for Vendetta (2005)

2_portmanv

Of all the titles we’ve listed so far, this might be the one I’m most excited about. Natalie Babe Portman stars in an action thriller alongside a masked freedom fighter and together they attempt to overthrow the British tyranny. Yes, this is the film where Portman has a shaved head and she still looks hot AF.

12. Vanilla Sky (2001)

immagine_vanilla-sky_29004

Back in the days when Tom Cruise dominated movie screens, he starred in this Sci-Fi/Romance alongside Penélope Cruz. Fun fact: Vanilla Sky is an English-language remake of Alejandro Amenábar’s 1997 Spanish film Open Your Eyes.

13. It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 11 (2016)

This hilarious gang of weirdos returns to Netflix for its 11th season next month and it can only be truly appreciated with a group of drunk friends and an ice cold mug of your favorite cider.

14. Jim Gaffigan: Cinco– NETFLIX ORIGINAL

Quite possibly my favorite comedian of all time, Jim Gaffigan returns to Netlfix next month with a whole new round of hilarious tales. We can only hope that he brings back his “Hot Pocket” voice and more stories about his adorable kids.

15. Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016)

alice_looking_glass-620x412

While this film was only released in theaters this year, it’s already taking its place in Netflix’s library next month. This might not normally be a good sign for a feature Disney film, but I’m willing to give Johnny Depp the benefit of the doubt.

16. A Series of Unfortunate Events: Season 1– NETFLIX ORIGINAL

maxresdefault

Last, but certainly not least is the premiere of the Netflix original A Series Of Unfortunate Events. With Neil Patrick Harris taking on the role of the despicable villain Count Olaf, I can’t wait to see how the book series is depicted in its second on-screen adaptation.
