With the inauguration of our future president just around the corner, *shudder* the country is still attempting to come to terms with our candidate. As with any traumatic event, we’re making our way through the stages of grief as best we can. We’ve experienced denial and anger, and let’s be honest we’re still pretty damn angry.
However, and maybe it was with the help of Obama’s farewell address, many are now finding their drive to persevere. We can and will get through this. So in the spirit of carrying on and staying strong, W Magazine recorded some of our favorite celebrities singing along to “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor and it’s truly amazing. If these A-listers can’t give you a laugh while inspiring you to keep fighting, we don’t know what will.
A group of our favorite celebs dramatically performed “I Will Survive” in honor of the impending inauguration.
Though the clever video is meant to be somewhat funny, it’s also intended to give a much deeper message in anticipation of the upcoming presidential inauguration.
As W explains, Gaynor’s catchy disco track “is just the antidote for a still-grieving Hollywood, many members of which were outspoken Hillary Clinton supporters over the past year — and a few of whom have found themselves on the unfriendly end of Donald Trump’s Twitter account.”
The magazine chose this 1979 track for its ability to inspire hope and perseverance.
“Though it was initially released as a b-side, it rapidly gained momentum after its debut, and in the years since, it’s resonated as an anthem of female empowerment and of gay pride, and it’s been designated “culturally, historically, or artistically significant” by the Library of Congress.”
The video features several A-list names including as Emma Stone,
And Amy Adams, to name a few.
“With an impending Donald Trump presidency, I will survive.”
Yes we will.
