Zoos Get Into A #CuteAnimalTweetOff Battle And It’s Exactly What We Need Right Now

Lately, the overwhelming amount of political turmoil going on in the world has made us feel a bit downtrodden. It seems like everywhere we look there’s yet another ominous headline about this executive order and that deplorable statement. When does it end!?

Fortunately, when all seems to be lost in a depressing whirlpool of controversial bullshit, we still have one saving grace to turn to…an unlimited amount of adorable baby animals. Zoos across the nation have recently taken to the Twittersphere to have an epic #CuteAnimalTweetOff battle and it’s exactly what we need in our lives right now.

The #CuteAnimalTweetOff is giving the world something to smile about and it all started with the birth of this precious gray seal pup.

WOULD YOU LOOK AT HER!? She’s so cute I can barely handle it, like a little sea-puppy.

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo released the photo to celebrate the arrival of a female gray seal pup, born Jan. 21 to mother Kara. “At 33 years old, Kara is the oldest gray seal to give birth in a Zoo. This pup is the third for Kara and 26-year-old father, Gunther.”

The National Zoo shared her adorable close-up on Twitter and the tweet-off began.

The Virginia Aquarium responded with this photo of an otter meeting an winged friend.

To which the National Zoo then posted this baby orangutang.

And then the Bronx Zoo shared these tiger cubs.

The Atlanta Zoo shared this cute ball of fluff.

And the Philadelphia Zoo dropped in with this little guy.

Then the Miami Zoo shared this momma and baby deer.

And the Tennessee zoo debuted their baby chameleon.

Of course, the National Zoo came back with a few more cuties.

And the Dallas zoo shared their baby elephant.

Leave it to Australia to brag about their number of adorable species.

But the San Diego Zoo may have won our hearts with this newborn sloth.

So. Much. Cute.
