I’ll be frank — most pregnancy announcements are barely tolerable. They’re usually the photographic equivalent of a dad joke. I’m all for bringing new life into the world, but if it means simultaneously bringing more bad puns and prop humor into existence, then I have some reservations.
However, this particular pregnancy announcement has given me hope that, perhaps, we can all endeavor to be just a tad more creative in our future declarations of impending parenthood.
Todd Krieg and Amanda Diesen met when Todd attended physical therapy after being involved in a dirt bike crash which paralyzed him from the chest down. Amanda was Todd’s physical therapist Project Walk in Carlsbad, California, and the two fell in love over the course of Todd’s therapy. After moving with Todd back to his home in Ohio, Amanda and Todd discovered that, although doctors had said it would be “nearly impossible to conceive naturally due to Todd’s injury,” they were, in fact, pregnant.
This delightful discovery resulted in an amazing pregnancy announcement, in which Todd basically puts all of our un-asked questions to rest by saying “It Still Works!”
Now that’s how you make a pregnancy announcement, folks.
Amanda describes to Brides how she and Todd fell for one another during their time together at Project Walk:
Todd had a crush on me and called me the “cute therapist”, and I found him so handsome but was so afraid to be unprofessional and hit on a client. Thankfully Todd got the drunken courage on Halloween night 2015 to confess his attraction for me. When he was done with therapy in summer 2016, he moved back to Ohio. I decided I couldn’t do long distance and knew I wanted to be with him, so I picked up and moved cross country.
And although she may look embarrassed in the pregnancy announcement, rest assured that Amanda and Todd both share the same irreverent sense of humor.
“Todd and I are constantly cracking each other up,” she says. “We think we are the funniest people we know (and it’s totally true). The joy he brings me is unexplainable and he is my best friend. I admire Todd for the struggles he’s been through and hardship he now faces with being in a wheel chair and unable to walk. He is in constant pain from his injury, yet finds a way to put on a happy face in order to love me and others well.”
Amanda and Todd are currently in the running to win their dream California wedding, as Todd proposed to Amanda during their pregnancy announcement photoshoot. (*Heart explodes*)
If you’re a fan of Amanda and Todd’s story (or if you’re just a fan of their cheeky pregnancy announcement), then you can cast your vote for the couple to win the wedding contest here. And in the meantime, we can all just sit back and think about the fact that this whole thing sounds like a damn Nicholas Sparks novel.
Congrats, Amanda and Todd!
