12 Netflix Movies That Will Distract Your Toddler For At Least A Few Hours

To all of those hardworking moms and dads out there, we know being a parent is no easy task. Of course, it’s one of the most rewarding experiences life has to offer, but that doesn’t mean it’s not completely and utterly exhausting at times. Everyone could use a break now and then to recharge.

So, the next time your toddler is trying your patience and you need a few hours of peace and quiet try turning on one of these kid flicks Netflix’s library has to offer. Your kiddo will be entertained and you’ll keep your sanity. A win-win.

1. The Little Rascals (1994)

If you have yet to share the antics of lovesick Alfalfa and his ragtag group of buddies with your little one, now is the perfect time. Netflix added this treasure to its endless library of streamable movies recently and parents could not be more grateful. While I don’t think you can ever be too old for Little Rascals, it’s a good feeling to pass it on to the kiddos while mom gets some peace and quiet.

2. Balto (1995)

Balto is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite childhood movies and I could unashamedly watch it on repeat for hours. This heroic tale is based on the true story of a courageous pup who saves Nome, Alaska from a deadly epidemic and it’s nothing short of inspirational. This is another excellent choice for a kiddo distraction while you get a few hours to yourself.

3. Tarzan (1999)

Disney’s classic Tarzan is an essential piece in your kid entertainment arsenal. The story of a human raised by gorillas in the jungle who, after falling in love with a woman, must decide between the life he’s known and the life he was always meant to live. As with any Disney film, Tarzan is chock-full of important lessons for your little one even if it’s still a bit over their head.

The Goofy movies were always my favorite as a kid and I will undoubtedly be sharing them with my own children one day. Max and his dad’s hilarious up’s and down’s make for an entertaining animated adventure that will keep your little one distracted just long enough for you to relax.

5. The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

“No touchy!” With some of comedy’s best voices, this animated film is hilarious for parents and kids alike. The humor that they don’t pick up on will entertain you while they get a giggle out of one llama’s ridiculous antics.

To be completely honest, I always found Stitch to be a little creepy looking, but most kids love this movie and its sequel. Aside from being goofy and entertaining, this film teaches the importance of family and acceptance no matter what you look like on the outside. We could definitely use more of that way of thinking right about now…

7. Chicken Little (2005)

Another solid pick from Netflix’s family section, is the story of one little Chicken desperately trying to save his home. Chicken Little (voiced by Zac Braff) is hit by what he believes is a piece of “sky.” He attempts to warn the town, but no one listens until an alien invasion is afoot. Plop your kiddo down in front of this silly film and put your feet up for a while. You’ve earned it.

Curious George is still on of my favorite childrens characters. Of course, this newer version didn’t come out until I was a bit older, but the experience of seeing it come to life after years of reading the books and seeing the show was pretty amazing. Your little one will love this adorable friendship between a monkey and his best friend.

9. Bee Movie (2007)

Jerry Seinfeld voicing an animated bee is by far one of the most ridiculous things I’ve seen. However, he adds a level of adult humor to a movie that would otherwise only be entertaining for your kiddo and that makes this film perfect for mom’s quiet time.

I have yet to see this newer DreamWorks flick, but if the reviews are any indication parents may want to add it to their go-to kid selection. A lovable misfit from another planet named Oh lands on Earth and forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous human girl named Tip. The pair come to understand that being different and making mistakes is all a part of being human and by doing so learn the true definition of “home.”

11. Minions (2015)

While I’m sure your little one has probably already seen either Despicable Me or the Minions movie several times, it’s finally on Netflix. Moms, that means you can set these yellow creatures to repeat while you reach for that little glass of wine you’ve had your eye on.

Last, but certainly not least is the incredible sequel to Disney Pixar’s Finding Nemo, Finding Dory! While the film only hit theaters this past year, Netflix has already snagged the title for its viewing library and we couldn’t be more excited. Yes, I’ve already watched it 3 times and no, I’m not embarrassed.
