If there’s one thing the internet loves, it’s telling celebrities how they’re raising their children incorrectly. The mommy-shaming knows no bounds when it comes to famous moms and their brood — and the Kardashian family is no exception.
On Sunday night, Kourtney Kardashian posted an Instagram photo which seemed to suggest that her 4-year-old daughter, Penelope, had gotten a lip ring. Although it seems obvious that the lip ring was fake, the commenters were absolutely horrified at the possibility that Kourtney had allowed her toddler to pierce her lip.
The photo featured Kourtney and Penelope laying in bed, with the caption “Our Oscar Sunday. Yes, that’s a lip ring. Thanks @kimkardashian.” (Judging from the sarcastic thanks, Kim either gave Penelope a lip ring, or inspired her to get one, since she’s been wearing her own fake lip ring around lately.)
Kourtney’s Instagram followers clearly could not take the joke, though, and laid into Kardashian for allowing her young daughter to wear a lip piercing. Even the followers who knew that the lip ring was fake offered their unsolicited opinions on how the jewelry would have a negative affect on Penelope.
Other comments included “You got your little daughter a lip ring? And parent of the year goessss to,” and “Why don’t you just add a belly button ring too.”
Personally, I think it’s pretty apparent that Kourtney is a perfectly capable mom who knows that actually piercing your toddler’s lip is a terrible idea. In all likelihood, this is just a faux lip ring that her daughter likes to wear to play dress up.
Now, as to what affect wearing a fake lip ring as a child will have on teenage Penelope? That remains to be seen. But until then, the internet should probably keep its nose out of Kourtney’s parenting practices.
