This Lip Art Is So Extra That It Costs Over $26,000

They say that beauty is pain — and occasionally, that pain costs an inordinately large amount of money. (They don’t actually say that last part, but I still feel like it’s accurate.)

Makeup artist extraordinaire Vlada Haggerty was recently enlisted to create a lip art look for Smashbox Cosmetics which would break the Guinness World Record for Most Expensive Lip Art (a title which I doubt was very highly contested, but whatever). The spectacle was part of an event hosted by Smashbox and Sephora to promote the launch of the Be Legendary Liquid Metal and the Be Legendary Liquid Pigment.

You may remember Vlada Haggerty as the iconic makeup artist that Kylie Jenner has been accused of emulating with her lip kits. Haggerty’s work is typically focused on lush lips, complete with her signature liquid lipstick drip.

For this particular lip art endeavor, Haggerty used the Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal in in Crimson Chrome for the vibrant red base, as well as actual gold leaf and 80 diamonds.

The entire lip look came in at around 6.5 carats, and cost a grand total of $26,500 ($25,000 of which were diamonds).

According to Smashbox, there was even a security guard in place to guard the highly luxurious lip art throughout the entire event.

Not surprisingly, the lip art did indeed set a world record.

Although, if you ask me, it should have set the Guinness World Record for Most Uncomfortable Make-Out, or Least Functional Lipstick Ever. I mean, it’s all well and good to create a flawless lipstick look, but I find it highly unlikely that this model was able to even talk, eat, drink or laugh, thanks to the enormous diamonds encrusted on her upper lip.

Moral of the story? Beautiful and intricate lip art is great for Instagram photos, but in actual reality, maybe we should all stick to something a tad more functional, and leave the rhinestones off of our mouths.
