Visiting IKEA is a stressful experience for anyone, regardless of their relationship status — but the burden is particularly heavy on romantic couples. I don’t care how cute Zooey Deschanel looked prancing around IKEA and telling Joseph Gordon-Levitt that all their sinks were broken, visiting the Swedish furniture store can spell doom for any partners who do not have their stress levels in check.
One thoughtful prankster recently decided to capitalize on this universal truth by installing a temporary (and unofficial) “Relationship Saving Station” at his local IKEA — which, even though it was a prank, probably legitimately helped to diffuse several fights.
The unorthodox IKEA station is the brain byproduct of Jeff Wysaski, AKA “Pleated Jeans,” who specializes in creating remarkably realistic-looking spoof signage. The station featured a sign which offered shoppers “5 quick ways to ease tension with a loved one.”
One of the ways was yelling at a tiny model horse, instead of one another (obviously).
Wysaski also recommended looking at an adorable puppy in a cup, to distract from any bickering about the MALM collection.
And, of course, there were some milk carton hats, which Wysaski made available because “No one can argue while wearing these stupid milk hats.”
Wysaski tweeted about the station, which was obviously an instant hit.
Though the whole thing was in the spirit of a prank, it also feel weirdly like a Good Samaritan act: you can bet your butt that a bickering couple came across those asinine milk carton hats and were forced to admit that they loved each other, and really had no strong opinions about windows treatments one way or the other.
Either way, I know that the next time I venture to IKEA with my significant other, I’m definitely taking along a tiny plastic horse, so I have something handy to yell at.
