No Joke, This $2,145 Balenciaga Purse Looks Like A Damn IKEA Bag

We’re all familiar with the infamous blue IKEA bags. They are simply invaluable to have around the house whenever you need to tote laundry or unwieldy items — and, of course, they are pretty handy when you’re wandering around IKEA and impulsively grabbing every scented candle you see.

But, just because these cheap, crinkly bags are beloved, that doesn’t make them a fashion accessory.

Balenciaga recently released their “Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote Bag,” which is being sold at Barneys New York for a cool $2,145. The thing is … it bears a striking resemblance to the plastic IKEA bags.

Like, it’s truly remarkable.

The Barneys website describes the purse as an “extra-large shopper tote bag,” which is “constructed of blue wrinkled, glazed leather,” with a “gold-stamped logo at (the) topline.”

Hmmm … I don’t know, guys. This sounds an awful lot like the 99 cent IKEA Frakta bag that you get at the store to haul around throw pillows.

I mean, the resemblance is truly uncanny. Is this guy exhibiting high fashion, or is he transporting some home furnishings? I honestly can’t be sure.

It’s kind of incredible that Balenciaga managed to make an IKEA doppelgänger that costs SO MUCH more than the actual IKEA product.

And yes — Twitter has definitely noticed the resemblance.

So, what does IKEA think about the comparison? Well, they’re pretty amused, obviously.

“We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!” IKEA told Today in an email.

If you’re deeply committed to paying thousands of dollars for fashion pieces, then, by all means, please buy this bag — but I urge you to not wear it to an IKEA, or they may very well assume that you’re stealing it from them.
