The weekend is so close we can almost taste our much needed happy hour. But, before we slip out of the office and dive head first into freedom, let’s take a moment to look back on all of the good news that came our way this week. What better way to start off the weekend?
1. Channing Tatum’s open letter to his daughter
“In honor of “Magic Mike Live” launching in Las Vegas, Channing Tatum just penned an open letter to his three-year-old daughter, Everly, in Cosmopolitan.
In the surprisingly candid letter, Tatum says that he wants to support his daughter in her future explorations of love and sexuality, which is part of why he’s been so involved in the creation of this stage show. More than anything, he wants future generations of women to feel empowered.”
2. Kristen Bell’s brilliant parenting methods
During a recent interview with Today to promote Neutrogena, Bell talked about how, as a parent, she encourages her kids to take ownership for their feelings and not apologize for them — and how she chooses to not talk down to them when they’re upset or having a tantrum.
“I think saying, ‘It’s OK,’ all the time doesn’t do anyone any favors. It just makes them subconsciously think that they’re not supposed to be having those feelings.”
3. Simone Biles’ response to being asked to smile
“After her successful Olympic season came to a close, the young athlete signed on for a season of Dancing With The Stars where she is being challenged in entirely new ways. Fortunately, Biles hasn’t lost any of her spunky fire and this week’s episode proved just how fierce of a competitor she continues to be and how much BS she’s not willing to take.”
4. Goldie Hawn’s surprising frankness about her monogamy with Kurt Russell
During a recent interview with People‘s Editor-in-Chief, Jess Cagle, Hawn opened up about her relationship with Russell and how they’ve made their dynamic work in Hollywood lo these many years.
Hawn also isn’t overly romantic when it comes to the idea of monogamy, noting that she believes it’s difficult to quell our natural tendency to desire or look at other people.
“Monogamy is a very tough order,” she says. “You’re in the prime of your life, you are attracted to other people, potentially, you have fantasies about that. It really runs the risk, if you will, if you’re not aware that you could maybe screw up a really good thing by doing that.”
5. Jimmy Kimmel’s staff reading texts from their moms
This Sunday is Mother’s Day which means we should be figuring out a meaningful way to thank the women who raised us, put up with our endless amount of crap throughout the years, and still continue to love us unconditionally despite our mistakes. On Wednesday night, Jimmy Kimmel asked his staff to read the most “mom” texts they’ve received from their own mothers and it’s pure gold.
