‘Bachelor’ Couple Ben Higgins And Lauren Bushnell Are Calling It Quits And I Could Not Be Less Shocked

After spending dozens of Monday nights habitually watching The Bachelor/Bachelorette and all of its addicting “reality” romance bullshit, I’ve become less than shocked by the show’s inability to create lasting relationships. Don’t get me wrong, there are the select few couples that make it in the real world, but for the most part things are doomed the second the cameras turn off.

This is probably why I was unsurprised to discover that Lauren Bushnell and Ben Higgins have officially broken up. Yes, it sucks but come on, the guy told two women he loved them at the same time!

In a not so shocking turn of events, Bachelor stars Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell have decided to part ways.

The couple confirmed in a statement to People Magazine that they are officially splitting up, but wish each other the best.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”

After Ben proposed to Lauren in the finale of his Bachelor season, the pair went on to film their own reality series on Freeform called Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?

Unfortunately, the question mark—once intended to be ironic and humorous—proved to foreshadow the couple’s doomed relationship. At the time of their show, Higgins and Bushnell also revealed exclusively to People that they were attending couples counseling at their church.

“We’re not the perfect couple,” Higgins said. “Far from it! But we are trying really hard and we love each other a lot.”

As a frequent Bachelor viewer, I can’t say I’m surprised to see yet another television engagement fall to pieces, especially after Higgins told two women (Lauren and JoJo Fletcher) that he loved them in the final episodes of his season. Unsurprisingly, this caused resentment in Lauren and Ben’s relationship.

“For a long time, I was really angry for being blindsided,” said Bushnell. “And that resentment and anger affected our relationship much longer than it should have.”

Welp, there you have it.

Let’s hope future Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay has better luck finding love.
