Welp, Huma Abedin Is Finally Divorcing Human Trash Can Anthony Weiner

It never made much sense in the first place. Why should a smart, accomplished advisor to Hillary Clinton marry a trash receptacle that needs a constant intake of garbage in order to survive? It was a baffling question that nobody could really answer. However, it appears that Huma Abedin is finally filing for divorce from her sexting-addicted husband, Anthony Wiener, forever distancing herself from his humiliating life choices.

Abedin’s relationship with the disgraced former congressman has been woven into a complicated and controversial narrative over the past few years. Even though Weiner was caught in multiple sexting scandals with various women on social media, Abedin remained firmly by his side. It wasn’t until Weiner was revealed to have sent explicit images to a woman while his young son lay next to him in bed that the pair’s marriage started to crumble. The final nail in the coffin was likely the revelation that Weiner had also sent sexual texts to a 15-year-old girl — an incident which will likely send him to jail.

The news that Abedin had filed for divorce came right as Weiner plead guilty to a federal obscenity charge at the Federal  District Court in lower Manhattan. Weiner will now have to register as a sex offender and spend 21 to 27 months behind bars as part of his plea deal.

“Through approximately March 2016, I engaged in obscene communications with this teenager, including sharing explicit images and encouraging her to engage in sexually explicit conduct, just as I had done and continued to do with adult women,” Weiner said in court. “I knew this was as morally wrong as it was unlawful.”

Naturally, many viewed Abedin’s move to file for divorce (which has likely been a long time coming) as cause for celebration.

This reaction is understandable. After all, when a woman chooses to stand by her husband’s side through his marital indiscretions, and her trust is taken advantage of time and time again, it’s extremely satisfying to watch her finally forcibly extricate herself from the insulting and emotionally abusive situation. (Honestly? Part of me still kind of hopes that Beyoncé leaves Jay-Z, as blasphemous as that may sound.)

However, the situation is more nuanced than a humiliated wife finally liberating herself from her dirtbag husband. Abedin and Weiner’s five-year-old son, Jordan, will now have to live through his formative years with little or no contact with his father — and it is almost certain that any visits they do have will be supervised, at least until Jordan is no longer a minor.

Even though the divorce is certainly a victory in some sense for Abedin and her self-worth, this story is still miles away from a happy ending.
