In addition to being an Academy Award nominee and one of the recipients of Ryan Reynolds’ coveted kisses, Andrew Garfield is also something of a drag queen prodigy, if his recent performance is any indication.
On Tuesday night, Garfield made a surprise guest appearance during the London stop of RuPaul’s Queens Werq the World tour. Garfield was apparently an audience member during the show at the Troxy, which featured Drag Race favorites Violet Chachki, Kim Chi, Detox, Sasha Velor and more.
At one point, Garfield shocked everyone when he took the stage during a portion of the show called “Wig in a Box,” donned a curly brown wig, and performed a perfect lip sync to Whitney Houston’s “I’m Every Woman.”
He did perfected the arm movements, channeled Whitney’s stage persona AND HE DID A DAMN BACKFLIP just for good measure.
Even host Michelle Visage was impressed with the actor’s performance, posting an appreciative Instagram later in the evening with Garfield and Laverne Cox.
Part of the caption reads:
Andrew Garfield, you are my new friend, I am SO proud of you for not just lip syncing Whitney tonight in a wig no less, but for opening your mind and heart to all it has to offer.
Drag fans everywhere had to give Garfield major snaps for his courageous lip sync efforts.
Truly, it takes some serious performance chops to do justice to a Whitney song, particularly when surrounded by some of the most beloved and iconic drag queens in history — but, I think we can all agree that Garfield definitely did the song justice, and served major face while doing so.
Andrew, Shante, you stay.
