Most of us are fortunate enough to have at least one best friend in our lives—whether we’ve known them since birth or met them later in life or maybe even adopted them from animal shelter. Through all of life’s up’s and down’s, they never fail to be at our sides like a second family that we’ve been lucky enough to find. That’s why every year on June 8th, we honor them with National Best Friends Day.
In celebration of such an important event, we’ve ranked some of our all-time favorite on-screen BFF’s and they’re the epitome of #BestieGoals.
1. Lucy and Ethel – I Love Lucy
First on our list, is the duo of all duos Lucy and Ethel. I like to think every on-screen BFF relationship was based on these wacky and wonderful women.
2. Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia – The Golden Girls
Of course, we have the Golden Girls who—let’s be honest, we all aspire to be one day. Also, if Betty White is taking any more best friend applications, we’d like to put our names in!
3. Rory and Lane – Gilmore Girls
Perhaps my all-time favorite TV friendship would have to be the lifelong unbreakable bond between Rory Gilmore and Lane Kim. They grew up side-by-side and no matter how long they were apart, they always remained BFF’s.
4. Sookie and Lorelai – Gilmore Girls
The same can be said for Rory’s mom Lorelai and her best friend Sookie. These two never failed to provide us with laughs and they even opened The Dragonfly together.
5. Ann and Leslie – Parks and Recreation
Leslie and Anne are another personal favorite, whose enviable and “tragically heterosexual” relationship has always given us serious reason to contemplate working for the parks department.
6. CeCe and Jess – New Girl
CeCe and Jess have been best friends since childhood and they never fail to be by each other’s sides—along with Winston, Schmidt and Nick of course.
7. Illana and Abbi – Broad City
It doesn’t get much closer than Illana and Abbi’s relationship on Broad City. These two have literally Skyped each other during sex—if that’s not true friendship, I don’t know what is.
8. Rachel and Monica – Friends
Then again, Rachel and Monica are pretty much sisters…casually picking each other’s noses like true BFF’s.
9. Liz and Jenna – 30 Rock
Though they may not always see eye-to-eye, Liz and Jenna manage to stay best friends through all of the up’s and down’s at TGS, including Jenna sleeping with Dennis. Ew.
10. Taystee and Poussey – Orange Is the New Black
The relationship between Taystee and Poussey will always be one that touches my heart. These two are the definition of best friends and Poussey will be severely missed next season. *sniff*
11. Meredith and Cristina – Grey’s Anatomy
Though several members of the Grey’s family had strong ties, there were none quite as deep as the roots between Meredith and Cristina. They survived everything together and knew exactly when to dance out their problems.
12. Buffy and Willow – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
When you’re in the business of slaying vampires, you need a resilient companion by your side. Fortunately, Buffy had Willow through thick and thin and we loved watching them surmount endless hurdles together.
13. Blair and Serena – Gossip Girl
Though Blair and Serena were at each other’s throats at times, they always managed to forgive and forget by the end of every episode. Not to mention, their fashion sense was always on point.
14. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte – Sex and the City
Last, but certainly not least is the legendary foursome that made up Sex and the City. Life without this squad just wouldn’t be the same.
