A new ‘Game of Thrones’ trailer just dropped and it’s chock full of new stuff

We’re pretty hyped about the new season of Game of Thrones, which premieres in just a few weeks, and there’s plenty to love in the new trailer.

HBO just dropped the new trailer for season 7 of Game of Thrones and it’s full of interesting nuggets from the new season:

The trailer begins with a voiceover from Littlefinger offering Yoda-like advice to Sansa (presumably):  “Don’t fight in the north or the south, fight every battle everywhere… always in your mind.” So wise (and possibly manipulative).

The trailer also features a voiceover from Jon Snow talking about the importance of joining together to combat the threat of the White Walkers: “For centuries our families fought together against their common enemy, despite their differences, together. We need to do the same if we’re gonna survive. Because the enemy is real. It’s always been real.” We don’t know who he’s talking to, it could be Daenerys or Tyrion or someone else.

We get to see Sansa walking through Winterfell’s weirwood, Daenerys exploring her ancestral home of Dragonstone, Jon fighting in the north, Jaime Lannister leading a charge in battle (possibly at his families home of Casterly Rock), plus a ton of new stuff.

For example, here’s someone battling a White Walker armed with a giant spear:

Bran has been upgraded to a wheelchair:

And the part most people are freaking out about, Beric Dondarrion with a flaming sword!

Beric Dondarrion, if you don’t recall, is the knight who keeps being resurrected by a red priest who travels with him. The Hound killed him (briefly) back in season 3 and the two reunited at the end of season 6. The trailer shows both of them fighting, probably north of the wall. Beric’s flaming sword might be a clue that he’s Azor Ahai reborn, something both red priests and priestesses (Melisandre) have been talking about in the background for a while. Most fans assumed Jon Snow’s resurrection at the beginning of season 6 hinted that he was Azor Ahai reborn (coming back to life is a big part of the prophecy), but it looks like we’re gonna have to wait to find out.

The new season of Game of Thrones premieres July 16th on HBO.
