Any woman who has ever had the privilege of being a bridesmaid, knows it’s the bride who typically chooses the bridal party attire. Even if it seems as though the bride-to-be has hand-picked the ugliest dress on the face of the earth, you wear it because it’s their day and not yours.
That being said, if the dress is not completely hideous you might even find cause to wear it again. That’s what one bridesmaid discovered after recently digging up her gown from a friend’s wedding. You’d be surprised at the use she still gets out of it—all the while looking absolutely 90s-tastic.
Oklahoma native and children’s book author Tammi Sauer has been married to her husband Ron for 22 years.
Tammi and Ron were high school sweethearts and even attended prom together.
(Yes, like Tammi and Ron for those Parks and Rec fans out there.)
The happy couple celebrated their anniversary last month by posting some of their wedding photos on Facebook.
Their wedding was held June 17, 1995 and we can feel the 90s nostalgia.
Tammi also shared this photo of the entire wedding party and the bridesmaid dresses scream 90s fashion.
Umm, can we talk about those off-the-shoulder lace trims please? And that maroon satin…rock it ladies!
Tammi said that since she couldn’t find her dream bridesmaid dresses, she decided to make her own from this pattern.
Because apparently, some people have time for that.
“Apparently, not everyone in 1995 wanted a long, off-the-shoulder gown in a burgundy brocade fabric that looked like a Thanksgiving tablecloth,” Tammi told BuzzFeed News. “Those dresses were handmade by moms, grandmas, and random seamstresses.”
This closeup really makes you appreciate the timeless 90s glamor.
Work it girls!
In her throwback post, Tammi apologized for making her bridesmaids wear these lovely gowns.
“My apologies for those dresses ladies,” she writes.
One of the bridesmaids, Heidi Mann, loved the post so much she decided to share her own hilarious photos to prove the gown was still useful.
The perfect ensemble for a little gardening.
“The way Tammi was so apologetic made me think about how almost every person whose wedding I’d been in hoped I’d be able to wear their dress again,” Mann told BuzzFeed News. “I don’t blame them…I did the same thing to my bridesmaids. I was certain I was getting them dresses that they would be able to wear again. I wasn’t.”
In fact, Mann donned the 90s getup while participating in several of her normal daily activities.
It’s so versatile you can wear it to grocery shop and even do a load of laundry.
Apparently, this isn’t the only vintage outfit Mann has held on to. She has eight other bridesmaid dresses, three prom dresses, and one eighth-grade recognition dress in her house.
“Five years ago when we moved back from living in London she gave them to me. Now they are almost vintage,” Mann said. “Really, I can’t get rid of them now! I have a daughter. She will want to wear them. You know she will.”
Anyone else reminded of Katherine Heigl’s 27 Dresses?
Needless to say, Sauer loved the pictures as well.
“I laughed. I cried. I’m pretty sure it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” she said.
Naturally, Sauer and Mann’s Facebook followers couldn’t get enough of the 90s-tastic photos.
I’d have to agree that this phenomenal album may have won Internet 2017.
