Welcome to Afternoon Tea, our weekly gossip roundup where we oh-so-casually dig up the dirt on what’s happening in the celebrity realm (but we never get our hands dirty, darling).
So, sit back, relax and get ready to spill.
Lena Dunham is getting some major grief for giving up her rescue dog, Lamby.
Dunham’s rescue dog had become something of a celebrity himself, after Dunham brought him to photoshoots and even created an Instagram account for him. However, Dunham announced in June that she had chosen to re-home Lamby due to “four years of challenging behavior and aggression that could not be treated with training or medication or consistent loving dog ownership.” Dunham claims that the dog’s aggression required her to get “tetanus shots and stitches.” Dunham chalked the dog’s behavior up to Lamby suffering “terrible abuse as a pup.”
Ultimately, Dunham chose to give Lamby to a facility called The Zen Dog, which specializes in helping canines with behavioral problems.
However, the shelter from which Dunham originally adopted Lamby, Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition (BARC) has a decidedly different perspective on the matter. “When she adopted the dog from us, it wasn’t crazy. I have pictures of the dog loving on Lena and her mom, which is weird if the dog was abused,” BARC rep Robert Vazquez told Yahoo Celebrity. “If Lamby had a bad past or was abused, do you think BARC would have adopted him to Lena knowing she’s a new star and put her — or the dog — in that situation? We would have told her if the dog had issues. We are a no-kill shelter. We don’t lie about the dogs’ histories because that gets them returned — and mentally it’s not good for dogs … It’s just hard to believe the dog was nasty when she took Lamby to every green room with her when ‘Girls’ was still a thing 4 years ago.”
It’s hard to say whether or not Dunham is stretching the truth about what happened with Lamby — but it’s clear that BARC isn’t buying her claims of aggression.
Taylor Swift’s notorious friendship with Lorde may be on the rocks.
Remember how Lorde was always a member of Taylor Swift’s “squad”? And how Taylor actually threw her a birthday party last November?
Well, the friendship between this famous pair may very well be on the rocks following an ill-advised remark from Lorde about how being friends with Taylor Swift is like being friends with someone with” an autoimmune disease.” Though Lorde later clarified she was referring to Swift’s fame, and how it often sabotaged the pair’s attempts to go out, many people were critical about Lorde’s somewhat insensitive turn of phrase.
And, according to a recent interview, it seems that Lorde and Tay aren’t quite as cozy anymore (which may or may not have anything to do with Lorde’s comments on their friendship).
The intriguing snippet of the interview is as follows, after Sunrise’s co-host David Koch remarks that Lorde is now running in the same circles as the likes of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé:
Koch: What was it like observing all of those heroes of yours and then starting to mix in those circles after “Pure Heroine”? Tell me how you coped with that.
Lorde: The second you think too hard about it you just go insane so it’s best to be like, We’re in wonderland and that’s just what happens around here. Like also, I don’t hang out with these people at all, I’ve said hi …
Koch: Hang on, you’re part of Taylor’s squad.
Lorde: I mean, you make friends in different places but for the most part I’m not like, calling up my idols for advice necessarily.
Hm. It definitely sounds like Lorde is either on the outs with Taylor Swift, or she’s being very careful to publicly distance herself from that friendship for a little while.
Rob Kardashian is being accused of posting revenge porn of Blac Chyna.
While it’s unclear what exactly spurred the most recent outburst from this on-again-off-again couple (who just won’t go away), the week has been saturated with Rob and Chyna drama.
It all started when Rob posted a video of Blac Chyna kissing another man, claiming that she sent him the video clip on July 4 to taunt him. What should have been a private matter then became very public, with Rob posting nudes of Chyna in an act that constitutes revenge porn (which is illegal in many states, including California). Rob accused Chyna of child negligence in regards to their daughter, Dream, and claimed that she was abusing drugs and alcohol.
Chyna fired back, claiming that Rob has a history of physically and verbally abusing her. Chyna’s representative said that she will be seeking legal action in response to Rob’s (since-deleted) posts.
It’s unclear what will come of this legal action, but I think I speak for everybody when I say: I sincerely hope that, from now on, these two stay the f*ck away from each another indefinitely.
Ben Affleck is apparently dating a producer from Saturday Night Live.
I know it’s pathetic, but I’m still one of the naive fools who hopes that Ben and Jen will reconcile someday.
That said, it doesn’t look like that day is coming anytime soon. Affleck has apparently been spending considerable time with Saturday Night Live producer, Lindsay Shookus.
“They are spending time together in L.A. Lindsay is staying at Ben’s new house,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They had dinner at Giorgio Baldi last night. They arrived in a limo. They looked happy. They had a quick dinner and then returned to Ben’s house.”
The romance comes roughly three months after Affleck and Jennifer Garner officially filed for divorce — but a source says that the relationship isn’t just a hookup.
“It’s more than a summer fling,” an insider told E!. “They are having fun and care for each other.”
And Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost are supposedly hooking up, too.
After Johansson was reportedly canoodled with the “Weekend Update” host at an SNL afterparty in May, she was later spotted holding hands with her lawyer, Kevin Yorn.
Now, however, it seems that Johansson and Jost are back on. According to Page Six, the pair were spotted at the Palm at the Huntting Inn in East Hampton, NY, “looking cozy on a love seat.” They also held hands and went out for drinks at the Upper East Side restaurant The East Pole in June.
Damn, is everybody over at SNL is getting some A-list arm candy now?
