As a child-free human, I am often vexed by pregnancy announcements. They tend to be on the saccharine side, are frequently be devoid of creativity, and often feature way more belly photos than I am generally comfortable with.
However, it’s always nice to be reminded that there are exceptions to every rule — particularly when those exceptions involve one of the stars of your favorite childhood Halloween movie.
Vinessa Shaw, i.e. the real-life Allison from Hocus Pocus, recently revealed that she is expecting, and she gave us all a healthy dose of fan-service with her cheeky pregnancy announcement.
Shaw told Instagram followers that she and her husband, graphic designer Kristopher Gifford, are expecting a new addition to their family early next year. The couple made the announcement with a super cute photo on top of a premiere-style backdrop, featuring the words “Great news! I am pregnant.”
However, Vinessa couldn’t simply leave her diehard Hocus Pocus fans without at least a cheeky nod to her most iconic role — so she also posted a Hocus Pocus-themed graphic of the Sanderson sisters alongside a positive pregnancy test, accompanied by the infamous line, “Winnie … I smell a child.”
“Maybe I should have used this for my pregnancy announcement??” Vanessa joked.
I, for one, am sincerely hoping that Vinessa goes with a better baby name than “Thackery,” as I have already documented my feelings on this particular character name — but, it’s pretty clear that this little one already has plenty of magic surrounding him or her, and is destined for greatness.
(The only thing that would make this whole thing more perfect would be if Bette Midler, AKA the real Winnie Sanderson, was somehow the godmother … but, I’m getting way ahead of myself.)
