Well, the long and somewhat frustrating wait is finally coming to an end: Taylor Swift is officially releasing a new album, and her first single drops on Thursday night.
But what kind of album are we going to get?
Taylor has mostly stayed out of the spotlight this last year, with the exception of her collaboration with Zayn Malik for the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.”
A source told E! News, “Taylor has been writing and recording her new album in Nashville for the last several months … She has been entirely focused on that and not much else. She has been 100 percent dedicated to making music the last few months and that’s it.”
While fans may have suspected new music was coming, the anticipation reached a fever pitch last Friday when Swift deleted all of the content from her social media accounts and blacked out her website. Swift then teased fans earlier this week by posting Instagram clips of what appeared to be a snake (or some other slithering reptile).
Well, Taylor is finally ready to stop teasing us and give us what we all knew was coming: a new album.
Swift tweeted out the name of her new album, “Reputation,” along with cover art and a promise that the first single will drop tomorrow night.
The name of the album and its cover art certainly seem to suggest that Taylor will be addressing the criticism and scrutiny she’s received from the public and the media since her Kanye/Kim feud and her vexing fling with Tom Hiddleston. Swift’s image has gradually morphed into a somewhat duplicitous mean girl, and it looks as though she’s finally ready to correct this public perception.
Since this will be Taylor’s first album in almost three years, she will certainly have everybody’s ears. Here’s hoping she takes the opportunity to say something we haven’t heard before.
