Considering Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are such a cute Hollywood couple, I tend to intentionally forget about their respective relationship histories. However, I was recently reminded of the fact that Blake Lively actually used to be involved with Leonardo DiCaprio, thanks to a very juicy deep-dive on Gossip Girl — and a very strange tidbit about Lively’s behavior on set.
DiCaprio and Lively were involved for about five months in 2011, right around peak Gossip Girl hype, and a recent retrospective about the show in Vanity Fair describes a somewhat unusual dating ritual between the two.
Producer Joshua Safran says that, apparently, Lively used to 1.) carry around a doll, and 2.) text Leo photos of the doll periodically:
“We learned a lot from Blake,” (Joshua) Safran said. “When I think about shooting the L.A. episodes, Blake was dating (DiCaprio) at the time, and she had this thing where she had a doll that she took photos of that she sent to Leo. Blake was way ahead of the curve. It was pre-Instagram. She was documenting her life in photographs in a way that people were not yet doing.”
Um, HOLD UP. I’m going to need more information about this.
Why was Blake carrying a doll? Are we talking, like, an action figure, or a full-on baby doll? Or perhaps a Barbie doll? Was this one of those Flat Stanley situations where Lively was supposed to take photos of the doll in a bunch of different locations? (I doubt it, but it actually sounds more plausible than any other scenario I can think of.)
This sort of sounds like the plot of a horror movie. Perhaps she was trying to capture Leo’s soul — which would honestly be kind of impressive.
Either way, it’s definitely for the best that these two are no longer dating. And here’s hoping Blake Lively finally ditched the doll.
