As every Potterhead knows all too well, the final installment of the Harry Potter series includes a scene in which the adult versions of Harry, Ron and Hermione drop off their own kids at King’s Cross Station to board the train to Hogwarts. Perhaps unbeknownst to you, this event in the book supposedly takes place on September 1, 2017.
In other words, TODAY is the very day that Albus Severus Potter would have started his first year at Hogwarts, and that realization is making everyone far too emotional right now.
Earlier today, J.K. Rowling sent out a tweet in celebration of the official day that Albus would have been boarding the Hogwarts Express.
The realization that the Harry Potter series has finally come full circle is causing people to weep into their keyboards just a bit, and there are a bunch of emotional responses.
“Uncle Dudley” was still kind of bitter that Harry didn’t go to Smeltings, but whatever.
And I think we can all agree: Victoire Weasley and Teddy Lupin would have most likely been making out at this point. (Though Rowling says we should give them their privacy.)
Even if all is not well in our own world, it’s nice to be reminded that Hogwarts is always there, in some form or fashion, if we ever need to escape to it.
