If there’s one thing that’s sure to bewilder (many) heterosexual guys, it’s any talk of highlights, lowlights, styling products or heat tools. For individuals who are perpetually preoccupied with women’s hair, men are often totally in the dark when it comes to any sort of nuanced conversation about hairstyles.
Perhaps that’s why one recent meme, created by a stylist, is giving guys so much difficulty.
Payton Hicks, and 18-year-old aspiring cosmetologist from Muncie, Indiana, shared two photos of curled hair to her Twitter on Wednesday, accompanied by the caption “You vs. the girl he cheats with.”
The joke being, of course, that side chicks are so extra they don’t even brush out their curls.
“My method for curling clients’ hair is creating ugly ringlet-type curls that I then brush to make beachy beautiful waves,” Hicks told BuzzFeed. “I was laughing and joking with (my roommate) about how bad they look before I brush them.”
The tweet went viral, garnering over 93,000 likes and 21,000 retweets. However, guys everywhere were utterly mystified by the meme, and felt like they were being left out of some sort of inside joke.
The tweet left most men scratching their heads in confusion.
Women were delighted by this confusion, and reveled in the guys’ collective bafflement.
However, don’t go thinking that ALL men were mystified by the hair meme. Several of them demonstrated that they know exactly what’s up when it comes to women’s hairstyling.
Give yourself a pat on the back, guys. You were the only ones who understood the important of soft waves.
