Makeup and childhoods aren’t always a stellar combo.
Growing up, there were makeup kits made specifically for kids to play with, but the quality left something to be desired. Preteens certainly didn’t get any actual practice in cosmetic application with those poorly-formulated makeup training wheels. Subsequently, when we clueless kids finally did get our hands on real makeup, we went way overboard and ended up looking like clowns.
Fortunately for those of us who yearn to go back to our coming-of-age, there’s now adult makeup inspired by ’90s childhoods — not vice versa. Which, in my opinion, is a much more successful combination.
Beauty brand Lime Crime has created a new line of makeup palettes inspired by none other than old-school Polly Pocket capsules, and the results are both nostalgic and beautiful.
The Pocket Palettes come in three different color schemes, and each set includes five different shades of eye and lip colors.
“Unlike your everyday palettes containing a smattering of vaguely related colors in tiny wells, Lime Crime gives you 5 supershadows that, like the Power Rangers, always work together,” the product’s description reads.
Considering your options, you may have a hard time choosing between these three palettes.
There’s the Pink Lemonade palette, with its delicious-looking, warm berry hues.
There’s the Sugar Plum palette, which is basically a capsule of rosy, shimmery wonder.
And there’s the Bubblegum palette, which really capitalizes on those ’90s-influenced pastels and neutrals.
Each palette will run for $34, which is a pretty sweet deal, considering you get five highly pigmented shades in one extremely cute and portable package. (Because yes, much like the toys that inspired them, these retro palettes are absolutely created to fit in your pocket — or, at the very least, your small purse.)
The palettes will be released on September 26, for everyone who’s young at heart but still wants a flirty makeup look (i.e., all of us).
