Fitness model shares swollen foot photo to remind us all that her pregnancies aren’t actually picture perfect

The reality of pregnancy isn’t always pretty. In fact, it rarely is.

There’s the bloating, the vomiting, the constant peeing, leaky boobs, color-changing nipples — it’s as though your whole body wandered into a carnival and you’re stuck in the room full of funhouse mirrors.

So, why don’t more people talk about what pregnancy actually looks like and what it really involves?

You may remember Chontal Duncan as the fitness model who caused some unnecessary controversy by choosing to exercise and maintain her abs while pregnant (which, spoiler alert, is actually fine, particularly when fitness is super ingrained into one’s lifestyle already). Considering this fact alongside Chontal’s unbelievably flattering photos of her pregnancy with her second child, it’s hard to think of her as any sort of realistic representation of motherhood.

However, Chontal recently shared a photo with her Instagram followers to remind them that pregnancy isn’t wholly glamorous for anybody. In fact, it can be downright gnarly.

Chontal shared side-by-side photos of her swollen feet from her first pregnancy alongside her feet from her second pregnancy.

Her Instagram caption reads:

Creating foot phobias all around the world with this post 😂 but this is the raw truth on how bad my fluid got towards the end of my first pregnancy. Second time round I have done nothing different but have absolutely no fluid retention 🙌

That foot on the right is significantly different from the images that most people saw of Chontal’s pregnancy on Instagram. It certainly doesn’t jibe with the idea of the super-svelte muscular pregnant woman that Chontal has cultivated, anyway.

So, remember — even with working out constantly, you can’t control what happens to your body during your pregnancy. So perhaps it’s best to just chill and go with the flow rather than actually comparing yourself to fitness models like Chontal.
