Reese Witherspoon opens up about her feelings on marrying at 23

As every Cruel Intentions fan (or child of the ’90s) is aware, Reese Witherspoon and actor Ryan Phillippe were married in 1999, and made for a ridiculously attractive (and fair-haired) young, Hollywood couple. However, the pair announced they were separating in 2006, and were officially divorced in 2008.

Witherspoon, who was only 23 when she married Phillippe, recently spoke about her retrospective feelings on getting married so young.

In an interview with ITV’s Lorraine about her new film, Home Again, Witherspoon subtly hinted that, perhaps, she wasn’t fully prepared for marriage in her early twenties.

“I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27,” Reese said. “I don’t know, sometimes it’s good to know yourself (first).”

However, she also adds that she “would never change anything,” consdiering the marriage ultimately resulted in her two amazing children and she is now happily married to her second husband, talent agent Jim Toth.

That said, she certainly seems to be encouraging her own 18-year-old daughter to pump the brakes when it comes to making major life decisions before you’re old enough to rent a car. “I’ve said to my daughter, I think you know, at 25, you start to know yourself a little bit better.”
