It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since the beloved Carrie Fisher passed away. Though her work and her writing will keep her legacy alive for decades to come, it’s always saddening to be reminded of her absence.
When the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi was officially released last night, it brought on a whole new wave of bittersweet emotions — both for Carrie’s fans and for her beloved French bulldog, Gary.
As Carrie’s emotional support dog/canine BFF, Gary accompanied the actress almost everywhere.
The two were often photographed together, and it’s clear that the bond between them ran deeper than simply “owner and pet.”
Fisher even stated in 2013, “Gary is like my heart. Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down.”
When Fisher passed away, her personal assistant, Corby McCoin, adopted Gary. Corby already had a bond with the dog, so this was heartening news for anyone who was concerned about what would happen to the pup. Corby has continued to maintain Gary’s Instagram page since Carrie’s passing, and the posts, while adorable, can still be heartbreaking.
When the new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released, Gary’s account posted a picture of Gary watching his mom on screen — and it kind of tears me apart.
We all miss Carrie, but, almost assuredly, no one misses her more fervently or devotedly than Gary.
So, yeah … that just ruined me for the rest of the day. I need to go curl up with a comfy pillow, or snuggle with a puppy, or something.
