Selena Gomez and The Weeknd broke up, so of course Justin Bieber is sniffing around again

During these trying times, when the news cycle seems to be a perpetually bleak state of affairs, it’s often tempting to turn towards lighter, fluffier fare, in the form of celebrity news. However, even entertainment gossip can wind up being more depressing than entertaining.

It is with a heavy heart that I must inform everyone that, after 10 months of dating, Selena Gomez and The Weekend have apparently called it quits — leaving room for Justin Bieber to elbow his way into the equation, yet again.

Okay, truthfully? The Weeknd always seemed a little sleazy, and I feel like Selena could and should do better. But, it’s always a little bittersweet when celebrity couples split up and remind us all that even beautiful, talented people aren’t immune to heartbreak.

Apparently, Selena and The Weeknd (AKA Abel Tesfaye) have apparently been heading toward Splitsville for a while now.

“(Selena) and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” an insider told People. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them. It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months.”

Following the breakup, Abel unfollowed Selena’s friends on Instagram, and has deleted pretty much all evidence of their relationship from his timeline.

To make matters even stickier, Selena’s ex, Justin Bieber, has re-entered the picture. The two apparently hung out over the weekend, grabbing brunch and attending church together. (I know — I’m continually shocked that Justin Bieber supposedly answers to a higher power.) However, according to another anonymous “source” via People, the two aren’t getting back together … most likely.

“Justin is aware Selena’s family is not thrilled they are hanging out,” the source says. “They think he caused Selena a lot of grief. Justin hopes he can prove to them that he has changed … He has changed a lot in the past few months. He is a very different person. (He and Selena) have a lot to talk about and are having fun catching up.”

Mmkay, guys. Whatever you say!

Just remember that I’m using this frivolity to distract myself from the world ending, so if y’all can make this platonic relationship a happily-ever-after story, I’d be much obliged.

If, however, this is just going to turn into another toxic Bieber relationship, I think we can all agree: let’s just skip this one.
